First gear on both sides would result in the easiest gear possible.
Lets think of it like this....

Left hand in the "1" gear, you now have gears 1-7 to use on the right hand side. The right hand controls the rear gears and brake.
Once you reach gear number 7 and want to find #8, move the left hand to gear number 2. Now set the right hand back to #1. This is your 8th gear.
You essentially have 3 sets of 7 gears, with each set being harder then the previous.
Clear?

Afternoon Happy;
The obsolete chainsaw Gods smiled on you today, but there is a catch 22. You must purchase a repair kit to get the parts you need.

If the speedo gear is in the front wheel a different wheel would have different gear and mess up the speedo but I'm thinking the gear wouldn't mesh with the old speedo cable teeth.Check a shop manual for stock number of teeth on rear sprocket and tranny sprocket,that will tell the story.While your at it check the stock wheel size compared with what you got.Of course it could be bad speedo.There's springs in there that run needle, so?Maybe borrow one and try it out.Good luck.

Losing power in last gear

If all other gears are doing okay then I would check with your local dealers parts department and ask the number of teeth on the counter sprocket and on the rear sprocket on a stock dtr 250. The prior owner may have mounted a larger counter sprocket and / or a smaller rear sprocket on the bike. The drive ratio may be out of range such that the engine is trying to make for a really high top speed but just doesn't have the strength to do it.

Please rate this solution. Thanks.

Replaced sprocket and worm gear on chamberlain 1/2 opener

The easiest way to fix this would be to take the chain off the sproket with the door and the trolley in the down position. Next hit the wall button and pay attn. to weather the gear is turning clockwise, you want it to turn that direction, wait until the unit stops by itself, next put the chain back on and now you should be able to adjust the limits. otherwise you should call a local professional. They will usually service your door as well as fix your opener.
