SOURCE: Duet sport with an error code
I have a Whirlpool Duet and the washed load would stop and give me a F-21 error. I tipped the washer back a little and removed the three screws on the front bottom cover. There is a large white drain value, turn and open the drain (make sure you have a pan or something to catch the water and any junk inside) to remove the water. Attached to the drain is a black hose with an expanded section, squeeze this to find any loose socks, under clothes etc. I acually found three socks, a battery, a pair of tweezers and a few coins. This F-21 error is a drainage problem, don't call the repair center and pay for a serviceman, it is easy to fix yourself. I hope this helps!!

An easy Fix. Take off the kick panel, 3 screws 1/4 inch. Make sure you have a shop vac ready or a lot of towels as there will be some water. Always disconnect power to washer and dryer, and turn off water to washer. Your filter most likely is clogged with change, screws, lint, and other household stuff that we leave in our pockets! Unscrew the cap on the filter, easy to find, since you have the kick panel off! Take everything out of the filter. Take your shop vac and **** out remaining stuff in hose. Also, **** up any water that has leaked in and around the washer. Screw the cap back on hand tight, put the kick panel back on, turn your water back on, plug it in and there you go! Maybe takes an hour and saves you a repair bill. If you are not comfortable with this procedure then call a maintenance person that is qualified.

First check your washer plug to see if the connections are tightly
screwed. Next check your filter if you haven't for long.
Remove the 3 screws at the bottom of the front panel under the washer door. Your filter door will be light brown. If you find a hose there it is to drain out excess water (water that could not be drained by your pump) After you hv drained unscrew the cap and remove all the junk inside. Have a large plastic bag to catch junk and water. Refit carefully after cleaning out. If not solved, something shd be blocking your pump, check this out
How abt a nice rating for the free help? Thnks

Hello, Welcome to FixYa. Yes the "F21" on your model of washer indicates the machine has detected a fault or obstruction in the drain process, hence it cannot spin correctly either. Chances are the pump is being obstructed by debris or some other foreign object. Here`s how to check it and clean it... **Turn off the breaker at the service panel or unplug the washer from the wall socket...safety first** 1) locate the screws in front at the very bottom of the panel below the door and pull the panel down and forward until it is off. They will be either 1/4" hex head or #20 torx head screws. 2) You will immediately see the drain pump in front of you with a large removeable filter. ( this is were a shop vac and towels come in handy, also the use of the removed panel as a catch pan is beneficial...but you may still get wet ) 3) Turn it counter-clockwise should allow you to remove it and inspect it and clean it out. Make a good thorough inspection inside the pump as well not just the removeable filter. 4) Re-insert the filter and before placing the panel back run a test rinse/drain cycle to inspect for leaks and to varify the unit drains and spins now. ( If the problem still exist`s the "F21" will re-appear. If so you`ll need to check the drain hose, hose from pump to tub for other obstructions ). 5) If all appears OK after your efforts, well your efforts paid off...pat yourself on the back. You just saved yourself potentially a hundred bucks ! Now You should be good to go. Re-attach the lower panel and you`re back in business. Let me know how it goes and if you require further assistance. Thanks for choosing FixYa. Please take a moment to rate the solution provided for you here today. Good luck. macmarkus :)

Hi, regarding the F21 Error on the Front End Whirlpool Duet, I was able to resolve the problem with the instructions from here, just want to stress cleaning out the filter by removing the front panel. Very easy and the error code is now gone. (screws are underneath front panel at bottom, remove stacker drawer for easy access, remove screws, pull panel off, remove the filter cap, turn to the left and pull out-that's where you will locate the clog.
