I am not using a circular saw . i am using and hand saw with a fine edge. The challlange I have is that I have put in the polystyrene ceiling tiles on top of my ceiling and have left the cornice on with the hope of just installing the polystyrene cornoce over the existing cornice. I am struggling to get the corners perfectly aligned. The cornice is not very thick. Is there an easy way in doing that taking into consideration that it will be install over the existing cornice which is narrower than the new one.

SOURCE: How do I cut the the corners(miter) of Polystyrene cornice.

Try making the cut with the rear of the cornice against the rear of the miter box rather than the front as you would for cutting regular (not crown) molding. I hope you are not using a circular saw to cut polystyrene.

Need new hard drive

If it is the CF version you can pick up a compact flash drive from EBAY by typing "Garmin 2620 CF" and the options will come up. However, if it is the cornice drive version getting a new drive is near impossible. I purchased a Phillips HDD 060 MP3 player from E-Bay for $28 as it had a 1.5GB Cornice drive in it already formatted for Windows. This worked and I just used Map Source to reinstall the maps. I've ordered 2 other MP3 players to see if they have a drive and can be used. If so I will post them. I am almost certain the RIO Nitrus has the 1.5GB drive in it; however I am not certain it is formatted for Windows. There isn't anyway to format them without a device to read the drive format as Cornice drives are a proprietary interface and the company being out of business has put a damper on replacement parts and tools to be able to try to format or fix drive problems.

To change that drive is 6 screws for the back case, pull it apart, but be careful as to not rip apart the ZIF cables that connect the back to the front. Disconnect one side of the ZIF cables (there are two) and then the ground connector and other 3 screws holding the circuit board to the back of the unit. There are 4 screws securing the Cornice drive housing, remove those and disconnect the ZIF connector on the Cornice drive. When you reinstall the drive reverse the process and you're good. After restarting there will be no maps, but the system should start up (not loop as before with the bad Cornice drive). If it doesn't then the replacement drive you purchased used is probably bad too, or wasn't installed properly. A quick check using Menu Find (holding them both down during startup) will provide a diagnostic and after about 1 minute the drive information will show up. If it does then the drive is working. Let me know if you have any additional questions and good luck.

Did you sense an odd smell? Try removing the brushes, there should be two, it could be one is worn too short or the connecting wire is broken.

Can I change the hard drive in my Garmin 2620 to flash memory? My 2620 does not have a flap on the side like the 2610.

No, it seems like its soldered in there. I took mine appart to check it out hoping i could take it out, connect it to a computer with a special cable, and Copy it to a bigger drive using (Ghost) or somthing, then putting it back in.
I wish Garmin would make it easier for you back up the hard drive and made it easier to swap the drive out if you wanted to.

Won't boot up

I have a same problem, and I think I can fix it, may be not. Any how, I bought a cornice drive on eBay and as soon I will get it. I will load my maps on to it with usb connector after that I take it a part and remove it from its case. Then I will take my Garmin Streetpilot 2620 apart remove the old cornice drive and install the new drive. I suspect it will work like a charm. To check your GPS at boot push and hold "menu-find" buttons simultaneously and you will get a screen to verify your problematic cornice drive.59c5167.jpg

Most likely your hard drive is gone bad. Push "menu+find" buttons then turn on, you will get diagnostic screen, it will show if your cornice drive is bad. It will say"Cornice Dive removed"4f3efc6.jpg
