SOURCE: black line in center of screen

These black lines on the plasma screens are very fixable.  There is a dry solder joint on a circuit board at the bottom of the plasma that needs resoldered.  There are 6 or 7 "ribbons" along the bottom of the screen that correspond to vertical sections of the display, so you just follow the black vertical line down to figure out which one is faulty.  I just performed this fix successfully on my first attempt on a Gateway plasma, but it will work on most plasma's, specifically Hitachi, gateway, LG, Hyundai, & Akai. I think they may all have LG boards, my gateway did.
I can't really describe very well what to do, but I assure you it is fixable.  If anyone is near nashville, I might be able to help you out.  My email is tomp2000@juno.com.
thanks,
ST

SOURCE: Vertical lines down center of Plasma TV

If it was just a vertical black line, i could definitely solve your problem.  However, i would still perform the following fix if i was you.  It worked for me on my gateway plasma.  Go to the following link and read carefully and follow closely!

Philips plasma is black and white with lines

Main board is likely to be faulty. Contact the authorized service center for Philips. This is not a user reparable fault. So many adjustments are there, after the main board repair/replacement. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Check the site in 'Mosaic' view. It will make search easy. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Black line down the center denotes a COF fault. It is best to contact any service technician. For more information, check the link http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/. This type of fault can't be repaired by the user.

Vertical lines down center of Plasma TV

Because of the complexity of these sets, the fault can be much more than just a bad IC. These sets are serviced at the board level. After changing the board, calibration is done as necessary.

The fault may be in the matrix power driver output area, or in the plasma screen back-plane layer itself. This has to be determined by the process of elimination.

I can tell you in advance that this will not be a low cost repair.
