here is one thing it could be cracked solder on the ribbon cables going to the screen there along the bottom of the TV if the bars line up with a connector it is probably your problem i will try to post the link to a hole writeup on it

These black lines on the plasma screens are very fixable. There is a dry solder joint on a circuit board at the bottom of the plasma that needs resoldered. There are 6 or 7 "ribbons" along the bottom of the screen that correspond to vertical sections of the display, so you just follow the black vertical line down to figure out which one is faulty. I just performed this fix successfully on my first attempt on a Gateway plasma, but it will work on most plasma's, specifically Hitachi, gateway, LG, Hyundai, & Akai. I think they may all have LG boards, my gateway did.
I can't really describe very well what to do, but I assure you it is fixable. If anyone is near nashville, I might be able to help you out. My email is [email protected].
thanks,
ST

If it was just a vertical black line, i could definitely solve your problem. However, i would still perform the following fix if i was you. It worked for me on my gateway plasma. Go to the following link and read carefully and follow closely!
