I have the same problem. None of the answers are to the point. I DO NOT want to to pay someone to do a part worth $5.55 and I have removed all the screws BUT the darn top is hung up on the switch side. WHY?

I'm not exactly sure which model you have, but I'll take a guess. Usually there are four screws that hold the cover on the top of the machine. One in the very front, one in the handle, and then two under the sliding exhaust cover near the rear. There are variations of this but it's usually the two exhaust screws that get missed. Good Luck!

Disassemble

I am guessing this is the same one that has the clogging issue. Normally the screws for dismantling are in recessed holes ( they are a few inches deep) and fastened with Phillips head. You will be able to see them with a flashlight. Take off the bag container door and remove the bag or dirt collection bin. There will be screws behind that as well. On the bottom there will be screws that hold a cover over the beater brush. when that is removed you should see the belt and the slots that the beater brush seats into. That just pulls out. Once inside there are separate screws holding the 90 degree turns for the hose path. Prob 2 of these. Make sure you go through the ENTIRE hose path. I guarantee there is a big clog of hair, paper, pencils and small animals in there. If not confident in remembering how to put back together take pictures.

My powerhead drive belt to the N137A electrolux model has broken. I have a new belt for replacement but do not know how to install.

Turn the PN bottom up. With a Phillips screwdriver, remove the six screws in the base. Turn PN over and lift back of cover, then gently manipulate it until it comes off.
Slide the belt off motor shaft, if necessary. Remove the screws on each end of the brush and lift the end of the brush so you can remove the belt, if necessary. Place new belt on brush and place brush into slot. Replace screws and tighten. Pull belt back to motor shaft and slip on. Check belt for tautness. There should be a little play, but not much. Make sure belt is placed correctly and rotate brush a few turns.
I recommend cleaning the inside of the PN while you have it apart. Use the dust brush to vacuum as much as possible out.
Make sure the light cover is in the correct position. Carefully place front lip of PN cover into slot in front.of the PN. Carefully settle cover in place. Check around the PN to ensure cover and base are correctly placed. Turn PN over and replace screws, short one in front.

I do recommend letting a trained Aerus Electrolux tech do this, especially since the belt will have a one year warranty if he/she does it. Of course the belt should last longer than that, anyway.

Does anyone know how to get the bottom off the electrolux Epic 3500 SR I need to check the beater brush? Thanks Jim

Actually the top comes off from the bottom base. Remove the underside screws, flip the machine over and gently remove the gray cover from the motor and brush assembly. Once inside, remove two more screws holding down the brush cover which is also part of the tunnel. It will reveal the brush, belt, and much dirt so be prepared.

Electrolux 1572E (Discovery II) How to remove suction motor cover?

Remove the handle assembly by taking the big screw out and pull up on the handle. Remove the four screws where the top half connects to the bottom half. Two on the outside back and two on the inside front where the bag goes. You'll need a long phillips #2 screwdriver. Always have the power disconected. Pull up on the bag housing while twisting it side to side.
Good luck after you get in.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE BELT ON THE FANTOM® THUNDER® AND FURY®? a.gif fantombeltchange1.jpg
fantombeltchange2.jpg
fantombeltchange3.jpg
  1. Unplug the machine.
  2. From the front of the machine, remove the collection bin.
  3. Facing the back of your vacuum, remove each of the Philips head screws located above each of the rear wheels. (Figure 1)
  4. To remove the base cover, place your thumbs in the two screw holes in the back of the machine. Push forward and up on the screw holes to disengage the 3 cover locking tabs. Put the cover off to one side, and go to the front of the machine. (Figure 2)
  5. Check the drive arm for any black streaks which indicate residual rubber from the last belt. The drive arm is located on the right side of the motor. The easiest way to remove any residual rubber is with some nail polish remover on a rag or with steel wool.
  6. To attach a new belt, remove the brush from the base of the machine by pulling up straight up with two hands.
  7. Take the new belt and hook it over the steel drive arm. Pull back on the belt slightly, to create some tension.
  8. Put the brush inside the belt loop so that the track for the belt is aligned with the belt itself.
  9. Replace the brush by aligning the metal end so the points face downward. (Figure 3)
  10. Rotate the brush by hand to check that the belt is running freely and easily in its designated space between the bristle.
  11. Replace the cover by placing the nose in first. Once in place fasten with the two cover screws and then replace the collection bin.
