Question about Maytag MER6772 Gemini Electric Kitchen Range

Maytag gemini MER6769BAW

My wife cleaned the lower oven and the next day the bake cycle did not work. I replaced the bake element and the oven sensor, still not working. I hear the lower bake relay clicking and clicking on the circuit board in back of the control board. There is a number on the board (60c2076205). I called several authorized maytag repair shops but the cannot or will not help without comming to the house. Appreciate any assistance you can give and if you can get the part I would be gratefull.

This has happened to me each time I have cleaned my oven. I have used the Maytag repair service each time and payed a fortune. The sensor is part number 12001656. Maytag will not do anything about this.

I will never purchase from Maytag again and hope others will not either.

I have contacted Maytag and they will do nothing. So much for customer service.

Power to that element comes directly from the oven control. If you have replaced the element and all wiring is ok then the control is bad even if you hear it clicking. The part # is 74006213 and cost is $298.99 @ http://www3.sears.com/.
Part # for http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=48695 is AP377973 and their price is $230.53.

The top element is not supposed to come on in bake mode. only when broil is selected.

Heat in lower oven will not exceed 185 degrees

Several possibilities:

1. Bake/broil elements are bad - can you see them glow red?

2. Temperature sensor is out of wack - does the temperature displayed agree with the actual oven temperature? The sensor can be tested by measuring its resistance.

3. If the elements and sensors check out and the oven "thinks" it is hot when it's not, then it is probably your control board. In this case we may be able to help you, we repair these at www.fixyourboard.com.

Remove the lower bake element and test the ohms. If none replace the oven element and its fixed. The element is usually the problem and its fairly cheap to fix.

If all your connections are solid then your controller is defective. Did you get any faults before changing the element? Does the broil (one at the top of the oven) work?

You probably need to replace the baking igniter, (Igniter, bake burner
Part Number: AP4102011 made by MAYTAG).

I tested the igniter function by (CAREFULLY) jerry rigging a bridge to wire the BAKE igniter to the BROILER controls. (Push/click plugs accessible by opening up the stove back) Testing the broiler controls this way the bake element remained cold. I then did the same test but connected the BROILER igniter to the BAKE controls and got a good glow. This indicates that the controls work but the Bake igniter's faulty!

You can access the bake igniter by removal of 2 screws at the front at the platform just inside the top oven. The broil and bake igniters appear to be identical but the push/click plugs are reversed at the back of the stove. (hence the CAREFUL jerry rigged wiring bridge.) The parts and wiring are pretty simple and visual once you get the covers off. Opening up the stove back is just a matter of removing several screws. UNPLUG the stove before you work. If you test as I described, make all connections while UNPLUGGED and then plug it in only for the brief test. Unplug again while disconnecting/reconnecting. Hope this helps.

Gemini MER6769BAW Range/Dual Ovens

depending on type of unit. most of the time they are very easy to change out.. look at element locate two screws. go shut off breaker to oven.. make sure its has no power. after removing screws element should come out fairly easy.. make sure not to let wires fall back inside unit. if so not to worry. just pull unit out from wall and remove back panel. push wire back through. hope this helps
