Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

Your problem is not your thermostat. In some models the compressor knocks out the overload relay. They relay could last a few seconds or a few weeks before the compressor knocks it out again. This is especially turn with the LG units.

You will need a multi-meter to check your compressor.

1.) Unplug your unit. Remove the bottom back cover.

2.) Remove the overload components to expose the 3 pins on the compressor.

3.) Inspect the pins on the compressor. Are they clean or are they damaged from heat (Steel melting).

4.) With your multi-meter, set the meter on the lowest Ohms. Read the Ohms between each of the pins. You will have 3 readings. One reading will be high and the other 2 readings will be lower. Add the 2 lower readings together. This value must equal the high reading within a few tenths.

I hope I am wrong. A new compressor depending on the model is $275-$450.00. Include a system filter for $40.00, plus new refrigerant $45.00 and the cost od an experienced technician $300.00.

How to wire a compressor for a fridgeadair freezer

Unless you are changing the compressor don't change any wiring. A live phase comes from the thermostat which goes to the c (common) and the neutral phase goes to a relay which sits over s (start) and r (run.) It doesn't matter if the live and neutrals are reversed.

Chest freezer power light on, run light off and all my food is defrosted. How do I fix it

Take off the service panel and check for the compressor running. Can you place your hand on
it or is it too hot. If it is you might change the relay to the compressor.Take your model no. to your local parts store and they will help you look at the part and exactly where it is located (on the compressor) Easy change out.
If the compressor is not running at all then remove the two wires to the thermostat and plug them
together (They will plug together if you turn one backwards and plug it into the other.)
Make sure you have unplugged the freezer while you are doing this.
Now you have routed around the thermostat.
If it runs then replace the thermostat and youre done!
If not after the relay and thermostat check it wont run then you have a bad compressor.
On the relay ask for a hard start relay for a freezer or ref. at the parts store. They know exactly
what it is. Its even easier to install. Don't be shy to repair this. You can do it or condemn it
Thank you for using fixya

I need a pictorial wiring diagram for this unit, can you help me?

here is a link the manufacture. There is a some information  and manuals posted there. it looks like you may have a something like what they call a 335-935 http://www.caravell.dk/ Their manul at the bottom of all the languages shows a picture of the compressor and the thermostat device and knob. The cooling unit wiring should involve fans, lights and compressor. Compressor will have cutout safety and temp switches as well as the thermostat. and a capacitor. maybe but not likely a relay. It should all be visible around the compressor. Some starting devices may be on the compressor under the plastic cover where the wires go in. If any of those are bad and you do not have a warranty a hard start kit for $18 will replace all the starting components if that is what you need. Let me know if this gets you what you need or have more questions just ask.

Magic chef portable freezer not cooling. compressor running

first of all are you sure its running correctly,if its overly hot to the touch is may sound like its running which it may be,but only on the start/run windings and if left this way it will burn out soon,it needs start/run windings to oppose the pressures inside the compressor to get it up to correct operating speeds, then the start winding cuts out of the circuit, this is where the ptc overload comes into play,as it does this sequence switching to make it operate correctly, just unplug it from the compressor and plug in a new one, also you may think you hear the compressor running, but its only the fans in the unit running,a compressor will run warm but shouldn't be overly hot to the touch, then if this isn't your problem,it could be an evaporator core blocked by ice and you cant get cold thru a solid block of ice so iuf its a self defrost model the defrost thermostat or defrost heater might be inopertive too

Compressor kicking on and off now not anything

Make sure you have 120volts at relay if not jump out thermostat if it starts to run and stays running Replace the thermostat. If you have 120volts at relay and it is not running or it's kicking off and on replace Start Relay/Overload but a bad compressor can make a Start Relay go bad so if you have the same Prob. after replacing Start Relay/Overload Compressor is bad

Compressor is bad the clicking noise is the Start Relay/Overload is kicking on and off. compressor is warm because it's trying to start but can't Frigidaire is known for bad compressors. I don't think the Start Relay/Overload is bad because the compressor gets warm.

Older Amana upright freezer, I think that is 18 cu ft in size. It started making a clicking noise....I assume when the compressor is trying to start, it sounds like it is trying to start, but cannot

Hi, the clicking you are hearing is the compressor overload/external overload. When your compressor is a burn out or you have a locked rotor which means the compressor has died on you, it gets very hot from trying to start and this relay which is tied into the common side of the common terminal on the compressor, will click on and off as the unit tries to start. I have repaired these units for years and know exactly what is going on and the unit is older as you say. I would suggest pricing a new box as changing out the compressor, you are looking at around $1800.00 and up. I hate to tell you this but this is the problem. If you want to confirm this, just pull the unit out from the wall and try to leave it plugged in. Remove the lower panel to excess the compressor, condenser fan motor, and coil. Just be careful as this compressor should be very, very hot when you put your hand on it. Then you will know that is the problem. It should be warm and running. Please keep me posted and I hope I have been of help to you. Didn't want to give you the bad news though.
Good Luck, and Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

Freeezer with no compressor activity

If all fans are running, but not compressor You could try to install 3 N 1 start kit, thats might help 50/50. If it will start compressor - be ready for compressor to go out soon. might work for a year.

Frigidaire for Kenmore Freezer-Compressor won't start

Set the thermostat to the coldest and check if there's power to the compresor relay , if yes the relay or the compresor are bad (in this case replace the relay which is the cheaper first step ,but if the compresor still won't start probably is burned out) If there isn't power to the compresor put a jumper wire to the thermostat if the compresor runs replace the thermostat.

ca. 2010 GE fridge with Samsung ice maker. I have to hold the reset on the icemaker every few days to keep making ice or it quits. What's the fix? When it works, there's a loud popping every 3 seconds for about 2 minutes, then a few minutes later ice harvests into the bin. With my hand against the outside of the fridge next to the icemaker, I can literally feel each pop. I originally thought it was the ice release heater failing that caused cubes to pop loose hard, but I couldn't find anything wrong electronically when I took things apart and examined the board and connections in the icemaker. I may have missed something mechanically that's causing some part to flex and then suddenly give against the wall inside every 3 secs as the clock cycles through the beginning of a harvest? What might that be? But after reassembly it now has the added feature of harvesting a few times and then stopping altogether. We run flat out of ice if I forget to press and hold the reset button for 10 secs. every few days. Apparently the clock is cycling incompletely or something now. Could a cog be missing/broken/out of alignment in the clockworks, such that when it gets so far along it slips, but can be reset? How about the lift arm? Could it be out of position inside such that something it's connected to isn't properly repositioning when the arm drops back down? Or could all of this be related to a faulty control board elsewhere in the fridge?
