Question about LG WM0742H Front Load Washer
Error code IE, I check the pressure switch, water valves etc.
My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.
The LE error code stands for "Locked Motor Error." This is one of the more common error codes on LG washing machines. Ii is a fault condition. Read your manual where it explicitly tells you to use only High Efficiency (HE) detergent. Although, regular detergent is less expensive, using other than HE, you are going to continue to have problems. Such as premature drum bearing failure. This is an expensive repair.
In the LG washer, the LE error code is usually caused by the burned out hall effect sensor, Part Number: 6501KW2002A.
1.) Unplug your unit and remove the back cover.
Be absolutely certain that the HALL EFFECT SENSOR is installed correctly. Three white plastic tabs on the STATOR (motor) securely hold the sensor in the correct position. If any of the *three plastic tabs* were damaged during an attempt to remove the old sensor-this will require replacing the STATOR ASSY
Also, Check for any black marks on the wires or burns or broken wires.

>>>> LE Error <<<< An LE Error Code is indicative of a ?Locked Motor? or ?Overload in the Motor?. This is rarely caused by a problem with the machine Q1:Are there suds in the drum? -->Oversudsing is the main cause of LE error codes. Using non-HE detergents or too much detergent will cause stress on the motor. Oversudsing can also cause leaking and odor. Follow the steps below to resolve an LE error code caused by oversudsing. --> Step 1: Unplug the unit and let machine sit for 30 minutes to allow suds to dissolve. Step 2: Press the POWER button to turn on the washer. Step 3: Press the SPIN SPEED button to select ?No Spin?. Step 4: Press the START/PAUSE button to begin drain only. Step 5: After cycle is complete, remove the items from the machine. Press POWER to turn on, RINSE&SPIN button, then START/PAUSE. Repeat, if necessary. This will remove excess suds and light residue from drum. Do this until no suds are seen in drum. Q2: Is this a new installation? -->In new installations, the code can appear simply due to a miscommunication between the control board and the motor. In this instance, the unit will simply need to be reset, much like rebooting a computer. Unplug unit, press and hold start/pause button for 5 seconds, plug unit in and test with a Rinse/Spin cycle. Q3:Is a large load size in a gentle wash cycle? -->Gentle wash cycles, such as Perm Press, Delicates, Hand Wash, and Wool/Silk should only be used for smaller loads. Because these cycles are more gentle in tumbling and spinning, putting too much in the drum can register an issue with the motor. Remove items, reset unit and test with a Rinse/Spin cycle. Q4:Is the washer overloaded? -->Single bulky items (comforters) or extremely large loads can add extra weight to the drum which stresses the motor. Remove some clothing and restart. If it doesn?t work, unplug unit and let it sit for 30 minutes to allow motor to cool. Then restart the cycle. >>>>IE Error<<<< An IE Error Code is indicative of a ?Inlet Error? or ?Fill Error?. This indicates that the washer is not filling with the appropriate amount of water. Q1:Are the water valves opened completely? --> Check the home?s water valves to make certain that they are both opened completely, otherwise the unit will not fill with the necessary amount of water. This error code will appear if the unit is not filled with water in approximately eight minutes. Unplug unit (10 seconds) to reset the code and try again. Q2:Are the inlet hoses attachedto the machine properly? -->If the inlet hoses are not threaded onto the machine properly, it will prevent the proper flow of water into the machines. Turn of the water valves, remove the hoses and reattach, making certain that they thread on properly. Turn on water valves and try again (reset unit by unplugging for 10 seconds to clear code). Q3:Are the inlet hoses kinked or damaged? --> Make certain the inlet hoses are not kinked or damaged. This will prevent proper water flow to the machine. Straighten out any kinks in the lines. If damaged, the inlet hoses will need to be replaced. Refer to warranty/FOC policy to determine coverage. Q4:Are the inlet hose filtersclogged? --> There are inlet filters on the units valves, where the hoses connect to, that are intended to filter mineral deposits from hard water and other debris from entering the unit. If clogged, water will not flow through these filters. Remove hoses from unit, remove the filters and clean thoroughly.

Kinda figured there was a miscue there with your error code however... the error code FE refers to the fact that water is overflowing ( normally means the inlet water valve is stuck open and continues to let in water beyond the expected and/or sensed level.. so the water pump turns on to drain it and keep the level down. This kind of problem would probably warrant a aservice call from a tech since the majority of troubleshooting would require diagnosing the failed component itself and is not something that I recommend you try. There are too many pieces of hardware that have a direct impact on how this works and I highly doubt you want to play the shotgun approach..try this to see if it fixes the problem and if not..try that...
Before calling for service.. try this..
remove or disconect ac power from the washer..let it sit unplugged for at least an hour..then try washing 1 towel at the lowest cold water setting to see if that works ..if it does..repeat the process using only hot water.. if that works... then try the same test using warm water.. ( this test may help determine if the water inlet valve .,.either hot or cold is leaking through it)... If you still get the FE test..call for service.. That's the best I can offer via this chanel... BTW..if only one of the two tests fails.. ( Hot water only generates an FE error.. then chances are the hot water inlet solenoid valve assembly is either sticking open or the controls to that are commanding it to remain open... Hope that helped you..'

I just fixed this problem - there is a rubber hose that hooks the bottom of the drum to the drain and recycle pumps - it is ribbed and it developed a hole. To confirm and repair (repair can be done from the front of the machine)

Hello Sheri Tucker,
The "FE" code is referring to a bad or malfunctioning water valve. The machine continues to fill because the solenoid on the valve inside the machine isn't closing to stop the water. The valve should be inspected and/or replaced if bad. This will require some dis-assembly, if washing machine repair isn't something your comfortable with then a service call is the best bet. If you are going to try and inspect yourself please make sure you unplug the machine before starting any dis-assembly. Hope this helps.
