Question about Denon Audio Players & Recorders
I have an Aiwa twin tape deck which has been up in the loft for a few years. I've connected it to my Denon amp and it plays a cassette fine for approx 20 mins and then it switches off and there is no power until the next day when I switch it on and the same happens! any ideas anyone?
Look for an electrolytic capacitor in the power supply that is no longer flat on top. Replace all capacitors that are bulging on top. Also look for a sand filled resistor that may be cracked.

it has probably thrown the capstan belt and will require a new belt fitted. the transport relies on capstan rotation to engage play. a separate reel motor operates ff/rew and takeup funtions

The cassette mechanism has a large gear that rotates to different
positions for the different modes. On time around is a play -
stop cycle. It is stuck in one position and won't come around to
the stop spot. Need to take the cover off and help it to turn to
get the cassette out. Then figure out if something is wrong
preventing it from turning or if the wheel driving it is the
problem. They are all a little different so this is where your
mechanical apptitude comes in.
By the way, you'll figure out right away they don't intend these things to be fixed.
Hope Ya Fix It.

The belts will have failed. You will need to replace them for the deck to be reliable. If you are mechanically minded I can talk you through it... You giving me a FixYa rating will help my profile and loosen my lips on how to overhaul your deck. :)

i have the same deck with same problem..so this is the typical problem for this deck...got it from thrift shop..it was in perfect condition, working excellent but after few days of enjoying it, all of a sudden the same problem arises.... and the motor is abnormally hot..it is way too fast.
when i switch on the power the middle motor will automatically turn on at very high speed...i play around anything i can do hoping something is just stuck up but to no avail..
