Phone chargers usually don't have fuses that are replaceable. If it is a car charger then you would unscrew the barrel near the center tip of the end that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket. That's where the fuse is.

My 2006 VW Beetle continuously blows the Accessory fuse utilized for the power port for the cigarette lighter and underneath the center console. The proper fuse was replaced. Only my phone plugged in when...

Hi Troy,

Without seeing the ports of the car and the plug of your charger, it would be difficult to diagnose with any certainty. I do have a suggestion however. Your note suggests that other devices do not cause the fuse to blow when they are used - it is only the charger for the phone. Since the charger works in other cars, it is probably not an overload condition due to a defective charger, but more likely a mismatched set of contacts between the plug and power port in your car when the two are mated. Some cars have slightly different sized power ports that can be either too tight or too loose for some plugs. Too tight ports could be causing parts internal to the charger's plug or car's power port to short together and blow the fuse.

We can get around this be using a different plug. The easiest way is to find a cord set that will plug into your car's power port and provides a simple extension for 1, 2 or 3 outlets. These can be found in auto parts stores and the automotive departments of stores like K-Mart, Sears, etc. Some examples look like these:

Insert the plug into the power port - and check that the fuse does not blow by checking the fuse - not by plugging something into the the outlet on the cord. If the fuse remains good, then it is safe to assume that the problem with your charger and the car's power port has been eliminated, and the car's power is available at each of the outlets of the new cord.

Try plugging the charger into the outlet of the new cord. If all is well, the charger should be working as expected. What we have done is removed the charger / car power port combination from the equation, by providing a different combination to do the same thing - but without the same physical connection that causes the fuse to blow.

You could achieve the same results by changing the charger plug under the right conditions - but many chargers now a days have circuitry inside them that change the car's 12 volts to something different. If you can find the voltage out of the charger and are able to match it with another - it must be the same voltage, polarity, current and phone power connector of course - it should work, too. You must be absolutely sure of the power requirements and your rewiring - if not, stick with the addition of a cord described above.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Plugged a phone charger in to the cig lighter and it blew my radio, horn, door locks and dome light. Will replacing the fuses work?

Yup, changing the fuses (or a fuse, for that matter) might work. That sounds like the effect a blown fuse would have. I'd also replace the phone charger, on general principle.

My cell phone is not switching on,its samsung s5233w

You have many possible reasons:
1. Phone battery is off. Connect the charger and charge the battery
2. Charger does not work: you can check that by connecting a voltometer at the output of the charger and check the voltage. If you see no voltage, most possible reason of failure is the cable coming out of the adapter. Change it and check voltage again.
3. Battery metal probes are not clean: clean them
4. Battery is dead and needs replacement. You can check this is you remove the battery and put the charger on the phone. If the phone boots, it was battery's fault.
5. Phone needs opening and checking of the circuit boards. Possibly a component is broken there. If not, the damage is not visible and need to change the board or the phone.

If this solution helped you, take a minute to rate me.

The fuse is fine, but when i put the car charger in it still doesnt work my car is a 2002 pontiac bonneville

Most car chargers have a fuse in the part that plugs in. you can unscrew the tip and check the fuse. But first plug in another charger and see if it works.

I have motoro clutch from boost mobile it want stay charged is there a way I could get new phone the customer service person gave me another home charger, at times it works it keeps saying charged attached...

My dear friend, most of the times these devices act very funny and gets one really vexed. Do not be, as there is a solution to every problem and if it looks as if there is none, then it means the solution to the problem is for you to replace the phone itself. But in this case there is a solution to the problem. First You need to know what the problem is before you can talk about solving it. The problem basically is that the connection port of the phone is slacked and is saggy, therefore the charger has to be adjusted several times before it can get to stay connected. I will strongly advice you change the connection port of your phone, that way, the new connection port will be tight and will be able to hold your charger tightly. Once the connection port of your phone is replaced, then you will be able to enjoy the full potential of your phone.
To confirm if it is truly the connection port of your phone that is faulty, simply connect the charger on another phone to see if it will say the same thing. If it does the same, then it is the charger that is faulty, but if it does not, then it is confirmed that the problem is from the connection port of the phone. You can take it back to the service center if you are still under warranty so as for motorola to be able to fix the connection port for you or give you another mobile phone.
Hope this information was helpful. Thank you for using fixya.

I would suggest to check charger first by attaching it to another LG phone to make sure that charger is working or not.
Check your phone with another similar working charger to confirm phone.

My lighter on the console and inside the console are not working-what should I do? I cannot charge my cell phone either.

Usually the fuse blows because of faulty cell phone chargers. Check the fuse and change it if necessary and also check your charger for your cell phone. It might be blowing those fuses!
