Question about Neptune AT55A Athena Corner Activ-Air Tub-55-1/8" x 55-1/8" x 19-1/2"

1 Answer

My motor for the air tub does not work I have power to the motor and I was wondering if there is a reset somewhere on the motor that I can not see<

I have checker for power from GFIC outlet to motor, I have check to insure cable from motor to control is connected properly. I checked for any breaks in the cable or wire. I have not been able to find if there is a rest on the motor and it is very difficult to get to.

David,

This seems to be a common question here. You mention power to that hard to reach motor, but did you check right at the motor input wires or at the feed to the electrical control switch?

As you may know, the switch outside the tub is an air pump that connects via plastic tubing to the motor electrical control. If the air switch has failed or the tubing came off (both pretty unlikely) the switch will not get an air blast to operate it.

My motor reset is also a bear (noticed the location when I put the tub in) so I can assure you there is one. I have had excellent experiences with Jacuzzi support. They talk to you and if they think you won't hurt yourself, they can help...not just schedule a service call.

all the best.

Air Switch Repair
It sounds like you have a bad air switch located in your motor.
The air switch is what the air hose connects to on the back of the motor or on the box on top of the motor. The other end of the air hose is connected to the air button on the lip of the tub.
This is a latching air switch and when you push the air button it latches to send power to the motor. When the air button is pushed again it opens the latch in the air switch and stops power going to the motor shutting it off.

Jets will not come on after filling and pushing on switch

There are several things to check.
the first and most likely is that you have a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) that is tripped.

It is required by code to have any whirlpool tub, spa, or similar equipment GFCI protected. on a whirlpool tub, a good electrician will place the GFCI device within sight of the tub, in the bathroom. it looks like the same GFCI receptacles you have on the countertop, but without holes to plug things in. a lesser electrician will place a GFCI receptacle inside the service access underneath the tub. (this can be a hatch in the side of the tub, or a cabinet door in on a wall adjoining the room) a bad electrician has been known to place it in a completely different room, or under the floor, with the power cord of the tub passed through the a hole in the floor to plug in. find this, and press the reset button. if it solves your problem, great. if not, go to step 2 (also, occasionally, the GFCI device is a GFCI breaker inside the breaker panel - check to make sure the breaker is turned on and not tripped, as well)

If you reset the GFCI and it immediately trips again, there may be a problem with the pump motor. find the access hatch (if you haven't already) and unplug the tub. try the reset again. if it holds now, it is the pump. if not, it is either a failed GFCI (have it replaced) or a ground wire in contact with a neutral wire. (fixed by moving the ground)

if the GFCI resets, or will not reset (newer GFCIs have an interlock feature that prevents them from resetting if they don't like the flavor of the incoming power) and there is still no power to the pump (use a plug tester, or plug a lamp, or radio in to test and make sure there is power to the spa tub), and you have confirmed that the breaker is on, there may be a switch that is off, (the same electrician who put the GFCI device in a walk-in closet across the hall, also had a switch that turned the whole thing off) or there may be a wiring problem somewhere. at this point, it might be worth your while to bring in an electrician to trace down the problem. - you would have to check each point in the circuit to find where there is a wire disconnected or broken.

If there is no problem with the electricity to the tub, then you have either a switch problem or a motor problem. the motor problem is unlikely, as it usually results in electrical symptoms, as well. the switch is an air switch. the button on the tub is an air plunger, that pumps air into a tube, and pushes another plunger in the switch that turns the pump on and off. the plunger can stop pushing air (unlikely, but possible) the tube can come loose, or the switch can stop working. the first two are easily user-repairable. the last may take an authorized service professional, depending on the design of the pump.

If you have acces to the pump and switch please let me know I will walk you through what to look at there to fix if the plug is good.

good luck with this - hopefully it is just a GFCI.

I have a jetted tub that has not been used in years, but still worked until recently. When I went to use it you could push the button all the way in with no response from the motor. So just wondering if...

the button is an air switch, check the simple things first. your tub is connected to a gfi plug or breaker, try reseting the breaker first.next is the air hose from the button to the pump connected,is it split or have a hole in it. with the access door removed pump the button and listen for an air leak, if so remove hose just by pulling on it, most hardware stores carry the same hose and sell it by the foot.

NOTHING TURNS ON, PLUG IS OK SAID ELECTRICAN

If you have plugged the tub into another outlet and the jets work fine, it is not a control module problem. The tub should be plugged into a gfci outlet. If it is, there may be a reset switch on the plug it is plugged into, or there may be a switch somewhere else in your bathroom that has the reset switch on it. You can buy a tester for about $3 or $4 that plugs into your outlet to test if it has power. Hope this helps.

My whirlpool tub is not working. Nothing happens when you push the button. Is there a reset button for the jets? What should I look for?

first check the air switch hose that connects to the "button"
Open the access for the pump there should be 1/4" poly tubing (probably clear) that connects to the pump motor. It just slides over a barbed nipple usually located somewhere on the back of the pump housing opposite the pipe connections. Make sure it is in place properly. If it is in place then look else where. The tubing also connects to the back of the air switch "button". This button connection rarely fails, especially if the tub was working and now does not. But if the tub is newly installed and may have disconnected during installation. this connection is probably going to be difficult if not impossible to verify since it is usually concealed after installation.
Some pump motors have resets some do not. If it does it probably is on the very back of pump opposite the pipe connections.
Also check to make sure that any electrical outlets in the bathroom, or any where in a nearby radius of the tub, to see if they have "GFI" reset buttons and make sure that they havn't tripped by pushing in the button between the plug-ins named "reset". Usually the circuit for the pump will be tied into one of these switches to add ground fault protection to the circuit.
If your pump is not working after checking these things it may be dead. Does your pump "hum" after pushing the button? Do you smell any type oder around the pump that would suggest a "burnt motor"?
If the pump is dead you will have to replace it.
Come back here and post more if your problem isn't solved. Or ask how to find and replace a new Whirlpool pump.
Hope you figure it out. T. Wood CFE Plumbing

make sure you have power to outlet that motor is plugged into,if so try pushing jet button in tub about ten times in a row quickly then on tenth push use as much force as possible and hold.if this does not work, air hose from back of button to pump motor may be disconnected.
