Question about Tascam MD-350 Advanced MiniDisc Recorder

1 Answer

How do I anticipate the overwrite modus

With my old Sony MD I had the same problem. But when I scrolled from the first recording to the last, from there a new recording was accepted. With the Tascam this doesn't work.

SOURCE: mini disc recorder question

Just use the first two tracks, one for left and one for right and use the PAN pots to adjust the stereo positioning. Just run the 'tape out' or 'line out' or 'aux out' of the mixer to the REC "IN" on the MiniDisc recorder; hit "record" then the "play" button to start it. Make sure your input selector switch is on ANALOG and not DIGITAL or OPTICAL. Let me know how it works out for you. Okay? Thanks

SOURCE: tascam md-350 "cannot copy" error

Like all home recorders, yours will not let you digitally record digital originals. The Serial Copy Management System (SCMS) is designed to prevent piracy.

Unfortunately it also means you cannot copy your own digital originals digitally.

Record them via the analog input. It will sound fine.

Recorded mini discs no sound on playback

They should both have the same standard format, but my best guess is you may have recorded one MD in one of the sony longer formats which the Tecnics can't read. The normal MD Decks may not have the old sony extended paly format and even some of the Sony high end decks don't have all of the formats. Sony tried several says to give more recording timje on a disc before migrating to the HiMN standard as an example.

MD Decks are now orphans, Sony just dropped the last of them stopping making of Hi-MD (1GB Discs) last fall.
Those rare 1GB discs are for the 45 hour recording portables were going for up $50 each on eBay like hotcakes as a result. I use an old program Sonic Stage in this old Vista Machine, but unless your system has some sort of pathway to handle older software programs I think you have gone beyond anything written for a modern interface.
I'd suggest you record and edit what you have the old way on the deck and then save or record the output into your microphone jack to get it on your system, then edit it further. I'm old school and better at editing it with a remote on the deck than with the computer. In the end it sounds the same if I rip it later or make a CD or whatever.
I personally use my MD deck to record whatever I like and edit it the old way since the MD allows me to edit it as I please.

I have Sony md player/recorder,model is MDS-E10. it play correctly but the problem is at recording, once yuo put the recordable empty md and you comand it to record it do not record any thing why the source...

Minidisk systems encode music diffferently than CD's do. The instruction manual for your model can be found at you will need to reference page 18 for instructions and trouble shooting.

Copying files

You cannot do this.

All minidisc player/recorders (with the partial exception of the later and far rarer Hi-MD players) can only download material from the host computer. They are physically incapable at the basic hardware level of uploading material to the host computer even if it's material which you own the copyright for. As a result, there's not even a hack for it as the wiring just isn't there to do it.

The only way to transfer from the minidisc player to the host computer is by connecting a lead to the audio output socket (headphone socket) and to the audio input socket (microphone) on the host computer. There is some quality lost but if the computer has a good audio card and matching software the losses are minimal. You can improve the transfer quality by going into the menu of the MZ-N510 and setting the output socket to "line". This bypasses the volume controls completely giving a purer signal path.

The failures you're experiencing are often due to discs being corrupted by either magnets or by being left in a hot car or bag but more often just due to the anti-friction coatings within the disc casing. The more expensive blank discs didn't necessarily offer a better recording quality but the discs themselves generally last far longer.

ONKYO HI-MD DECK md-133 can't edit Sonic Stage formatted minidiscs

Anything downloaded from Sonicstage in Atrac3plus cannot be edited on the deck. Sony put that restriction so you don't change anything. They love DRM on music. Stick to old MD, much better.

Sony MDS JE-320 not recording

This is a common problem with the overwrite head on these units. There is a two wire connection going to it which fails after a couple of years of service. Or for some reason the overwrite head does not make contact to the MD disk surface, it is suppose to when recoding or writing the TOC.
This overwrite head assembly is very very delicate, provided you feel comfortable to work on it you can probably fix it. Or find a local electronics technician to help you with that.

Do some reading on the Minidisc Forum

Hope this helps
