Hard to pull starter rope with spark plug in

You have to overcome the 100-135 psi of compression by pulling the rope. Some manufacturers now incorporate a 'compression release' to allow a rapid spin of the engine with a moderate pull. It automatically resets when it fires so you may have to push the compression release more than once to get them started.

Yours does not have that option which is why they suggest sitting the saw on the ground and inserting your toe into the handle while holding the front of the saw down with one hand. That allows you to ge a bit agressive with the pull rope with the other.

Pull rope will not pull

Remove recoil rope assembly. Ensure rope is properly wrapped around. While recoil assembly is removed use ratchet and socket to rotate fly wheel, remove spark plug first, observe compression and exhaust at spark plug whole during rotation of fly wheel. Clean or replace spark plug. Ensure oil is full. 30w. Set spark plug gap. Always use Stabile in gas. Replace coil rope is required. Purchased by the foot at any mower repair store.

Starter rope grabs at times. why?

try using the de-compression button when starting, will do the same as removing the spark plug but without removing the spark plug.

Failing that, remove the starter cover and check starter cord for daage or signs of snagging.

Won't start!!!! Can u help trouble shoot to fix please

Hi there check you are getting a spark from the cap to the plug.Do this by removing the cap and holding it very close to the top of the spark plug then try starting it.You should see a spark jump across.
If that seems ok take out the plug and either give a clean with some wire wool gently or replace it if it looks old or is old!
Hope this helps ;o)

Roy

Compression lockup

Remove spark plug. Pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray WD 40 in spark plug hole. Pull rope several times. ensure compression is present. Replace spark plug with new one. Spray starting fluid in cylinder before replacing spark plug. Ensure plug wires snaps on tight. Check oil level, fill with 30w oil if required. All mowers have a low oil start cutoff. Clean or replace air filter.

This is a common problem on older Poulan models. Press the primer button 10 times and pull the starter rope twice, then pull the spark plug and examine it. If the plug is wet that means gas is definitely getting to the combustion chamber. Next thing is to use a compression tester. If you do not have a compression tester but have an AutoZone anywhere near you, you can get a loaner from them. Screw the compression tester into the plug hole and pull the start rope 4 times. If the tester reads anything below 90psi, you have a bad ring and will have to take the motor apart to clean the piston and ring or replace the ring.

Keep me posted on what you find, ok? I can walk you through the procedure to replace the ring if necessary. Good Luck!

Chainsaw won't start. Can't pull starting cord out

Try replacing the muffler. The baffle or something inside the muffler may be loose and when compression is put on the cylinder from pulling starter rope to crank over engine it will cause baffle to move over and seal off muffler leaving nowhere for compression to go. When the sparkplug is removed this allows an outlet for compression when starter rope is pulled. Hope this helps
