If you haven't accessed the account "in years", then most likely all your profile information is gone. I would consider that account as lost.

Try to create a new Yahoo account with the email name you had before. If the account still exists, you will get an error message from Yahoo, saying that name is already taken. If years have passed, then another owner likely has that address with their own password.

I urge everyone to have at least two email accounts - each on different providers. When setting up the account profile, be sure to list the other email account as your alternate. This is so the management of your email service can send you a temporary password to the alternate email address.

Select "I can't access my account" on the Yahoo Mail login page to reset your password. If you cannot reset your password, select "My account may have been compromised".

Symptoms You can try these basic steps to troubleshoot Mail on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If you see a specific error message, follow the basic steps, then the steps for that error message. For example, you might see one of these messages:

  • Cannot get mail
  • Unable to move message
  • Username or password is incorrect
  • Relaying denied
  • Email address rejected by the server
Resolution First, try these basic troubleshooting steps:
  1. Tap Safari and load a webpage. If you can load a webpage, then your device has Internet access. If you can't load a webpage, check your Wi-Fi connection or try a different Internet connection:
    • Try a different Wi-Fi connection.
    • If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
    • If the affected email account is provided by your Internet provider, see if your issue is resolved while connected to your home Wi-Fi network.*
  2. Log in to your email provider's website to make sure that the account is active and the password is correct.
  3. Make sure your settings are correct using Mail Settings Lookup.
  4. Restart your iOS device.
  5. Delete the affected email account from your device.

Follow the steps below for specific alerts.
"Cannot get mail" Make sure you entered the correct password. If you enabled two-step verification through your email service provider, contact them to see if you need a special password for your iOS device.
"Unable to move message"

"Relaying denied" or "Email address rejected by the server" when you try to send email This error indicates that either an email address is incorrect or your settings aren't correct for your current connection. Make sure the email address is correct for messages in the Outbox or try a different port:
  • If you're on a Wi-Fi network connected to the same network as your email domain, such as your Cable or DSL provider, try port 25:
    1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    2. Tap your email account, then tap Account.
    3. Scroll down and tap Outgoing Mail Server.
    4. Tap Primary Server, then tap Server Port.
    5. Delete the current port and enter 25.
    6. Tap Done.
  • When you connect to a cellular data or a different Wi-Fi network, you need to use an alternate port and authentication, if your email provider supports it. The most common alternate ports are 465 and 587. Check with your email provider for specific settings.

[Fix] Mail Apps and Devices Show Incorrect Password Error After Enabling 2-Step Verification in Microsoft or Gmail Account "2-step verification" is an important security feature which protects your online account whether its your email account or a social networking account. It asks for an extra security code each time you try to sign in to your account. This security code is sent to your registered mobile phone or alternative email ID.
Recently Microsoft enabled this 2-step verification feature for Microsoft accounts which are used for emails, Windows 8, XBox, etc. On the other hand Google is already providing two-step verification in its Gmail service since long time.
If you enabled 2-step verification feature in your Microsoft or Gmail account, you might be facing a weird issue. If you try to access your email account using an email client such as Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook, etc, it'll now allow you to sign in using your current password. It'll show you an incorrect password error message even if your password is absolutely correct. The same problem will also occur if you try to sign in using your Microsoft account in devices such as Xbox 360 or Android smartphones.
Now the question comes why does this problem occur? Why do these mail apps and devices not accept your correct password? The answer is very simple. These mail apps and devices were not designed to ask you for the extra security code which is required for 2-step verification. Since these apps and devices don't ask for security code, the 2-step verification procedure is not completed successfully, hence you can't sign in using your credentials in those apps and devices.
So what's the solution? The solution is very simple. Every company which provides 2-step verification feature, also allows you to create special passwords for these mail apps and devices. You can create separate passwords for each app and device and then you can use that special password to sign in to those apps or devices. Now those apps and devices will accept the new password and will allow you to access your account without any problem.
So if you have enabled 2-step verification feature in Microsoft or Gmail account and if you are facing login password problems in mail apps or devices, you just need to create above mentioned special passwords or codes to sign in without any problem.
Just follow these simple steps to create app passwords for your Microsoft or Gmail account:
A. Create App Password in Microsoft Account 1. Open your Microsoft account security settings page by clicking on following link:

Some apps and devices don't support security codes. In these cases, you need to create an app password to sign in. 3. Click on "Create a new app password" link and it'll immediately provide you a new password generated randomly.

B. Create Application Specific Password in Gmail Account

1. Open your Google account settings page by clicking on following link:

To use these applications, you need to generate an application-specific password. 4. Yahoo lock down an account if there are too many attempts at the password,
This is to protect your account
Go to sign in page and click on
"I can't access my account"
and fill in the details.

Trying to set up outlook but dont know incoming and outgoing servers how do i find out


The incoming and outgoing mail servers are going to be the ones used by your ISP(internet service provider:Time Warner,Verizon,ect) if you use their mail service or a web based service(Yahoo,MSN,ect). So you can first start with your actual e-mail address. If your e-mail address is joeschmo@yahoo.com then you e-mail provider is yahoo. You will then need to goto the website for your e-mail provider and get the incoming and outgoing e-mail server info from them. You will also need your username and password for your e-mail account. Then set up a new e-mail account on outlook express using the information. Also some mail servers require authentication so you might need to configure those settings on outlook exprerss also.

2. Now, try the forgot password page to send mail at your activated account.

Considerations Before Accessing Multiple Accounts

Before using Outlook to access more than one email account there are some caveats to this type of access.

• All email will be delivered to one inbox unless another Outlook Data File is created for the account and a rule created to move the message to the data file. If storing all in email in one data file is acceptable then a rule can be created to move the email to a folder to keep accounts separate.

• When creating or replying to an email you need to select which account the email should be sent from. This is accomplished by selecting Accounts in the mail compose windows and selecting the account to use.

Steps for Setting Up an Additional Email Account:

1. Tools
2. Email Accounts
3. Select Add a new email account click Next
4. Select POP3
5. Fill in Your Name
6. Fill in Email address for account
7. Enter User Name for account
8. Enter Password for account - check Remember password if you don’t want to login each time you send and receive email.
9. Enter Incoming Mail Server (POP3) – Information provided by ISP
10. Enter Outgoing Mail Service (SMTP) – Information provided by ISP

If this is all the information the ISP requires then click Test Account Settings to determine if everything is setup correctly. If additional information is required follow the steps below. If Outlook can perform a test send/receive with no errors then you are finished! Click Next and then Finished.

If the test fails, check your settings to make sure everything is entered correctly. Pay close attention to the username and password fields as this is usually where the problem occurs.

Additional Information

If the ISP requires outgoing authentication follow these steps:

1. Click on More Settings
2. Click on Outgoing Server tab
3. Check the box next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
4. Make sure the Use same settings as my incoming settings is selected
5. If this is all of the required information click OK and then Test Account Settings

If the ISP requires that Server Port number needs to be changed:

1. Click on More Settings
2. Click Advanced Tab
3. Change the Incoming or Outgoing Port Number to the number provided by ISP
4. Click on OK and then Test Account Settings
