It's a guess but I think the "keyboard" and its associated processing parts are fried from a staticelectricity charge hitting the unit. See page 4-8 of the linked manual which references a "Front End Digital Board".

Good luck if you try to repair as Motara issued an End-of-Life notice effective 8/1/13 so no official repairs or parts are available (second link).

The screen goes black in the middle of recording an EKG

This particular device will not run on AC. Many medical devices are plugged into AC only to charge the battery. Make sure the green power LED light on back panel is working. If the battery is week and needs replaced, this can happen. Make sure the keyboard is plugged in properly also the power cord in the back of the machine can become disconnected and will not charge the battery. Have a technician verify that the display and backlight cables are securely connected but this will require the removal of the top cover, power supply and power supply boards. Display cable improperly connected. The cable is not fully
inserted into the jack and the right tab is not fully engaged to
lock in the cable.
After a crash, insert a USB flash drive and select Setup '
Service Functions ' Copy crash dump to USB
. A text file is created that can be displayed for analysis.
Hope that helps.

Help. have starimaster 4600cl getting "config rqrd" error

Display reads CONFIG RQRD or NTM CONFIG RQD on Stairmaster Equipment Probable Cause The message CONFIG RQRD or NTM CONFIG RQD appears when the console needs to be configured for the machine type it is installed. This message is common when the console has been replaced or if the settings have been changed. Message is commonly seen on various Stairmaster equipment such as bike models 3000CE, 3300CE, 3400CE, 3600RC, 3800RC and 3900RC; stepper models 4400PT, 4600PT, 4400CL, 4600CL and SC916; stepmill models 7000PT and SM916; elliptical model ClubStride 5100.
Corrective Action
  • Make sure the unit is in an "idle" state. "Idle" state means the console is not displaying an error or any message that requires data input. The display should basically be freshly powered up, scrolling the EKG or welcome message
  • Configure the console for the proper machine type by pressing Level UP, 80, ENTER
  • Using the Level UP or Level DOWN keys, scroll through to the proper machine type (Bike, Elliptical, Stairclimber or Stepmill)
  • Once the proper machine type is shown on the display select the machine type by pressing ENTER
  • This completes the steps necessary when your Stairmaster display reads CONFIG RQRD or NTM CONFIG RQD

Config rqrd is showing on screen. My mother is the original owner of this machine. I have taken the console apart to pull out the main board to have it replaced and noticed a small spider nest on the board...

Schiller AT-2 Plus, placed new paper in machine and machine keeps stating "out of paper" and will not print unless I hold down the manual print.

Your machine has the wrong paper in it or the paper sensor is not working properly.  There should be a black mark on the top left hand corner of each page.  The correct ekg paper and ekg repair is available from Medical Device Depot.

BATTERY FAILURE OR SOMETHING WORSE?

Sounds like just a bad battery. These machines need to have a good battery in order to work at all even if they are plugged into the wall. Try contacting R & D Batteries. We service these systems and I can offer more help if necessary.
