Question about GE JVM2070 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Trying to remove an OTR microwave (GE JVM2070) but having difficulty lifting off the brackets. Mounting screws removed and unit hangs down without issue but can't swing it off the brackets. Am wondering if it is necessary to remove the above cabinetry to allow enough space but I would hope to avoid doing so.

Additionally, there is some molding extending from the adjacent cabinets that the microwave hits when it tilts down. Approximately how far does the unit need to tilt in order to remove from the brackets?

The GE Spacemaker series of microwave ovens are designed to be installed above an oven range, freeing up counter space in your kitchen. Some of these Spacemaker models are connected to an outside venting system to carry kitchen vapor and odors outside. Other Spacemaker models utilize a ductless system to do this. Removing a GE Spacemaker microwave oven isn't a difficult task, but, because of the size of some of the oven models, it is a two-man operation. Have a question? Things You'll Need

  • Assistant
  • Sharp knife
  • Phillips screwdriver
Instructions
    • 1 Open the cabinet above where the Spacemaker microwave oven is installed. If you see a vent in the cabinet leading to the Spacemaker oven below, your Spacemaker is vented. This vent needs to be disconnected before continuing with removal. Disconnect the vent either by loosening the duct clamps or by cutting the duct tape away with a sharp knife. Pull the vent out of the top of the oven.
    • 2 Have an assistant support the oven from below. Loosen the mounting screws connected to the Spacemaker through the cabinet bottom. Loosen the screws by turning counterclockwise with the Phillips screwdriver.
    • 3 Unplug the Spacemaker from the socket in the cabinet.
    • 4 Continue loosening the screws while your assistant holds the oven in place. Once the screws are removed, have your assistant slowly lower the Spacemaker down by lowering the front face at a 45-degree angle.
    • 5 Feed the power cable for the Spacemaker through the hole in the bottom in the supporting cabinet.
    • 6 Help your assistant slowly pull the Spacemaker forward and out of the mounting brackets on the rear wall. Once the Spacemaker is cleared of the mounting cabinet and rear wall, set it down.
    • 7 Remove the mounting bracket from the rear wall by loosening the screws.

How do I replace the bulb in my GE JVM2070?

Hi,
There are two screws holding the vent from the top, not front, that's why you don't see them. After you remowe them try to slide the vent to the left, it will move about 1/8" just enough to unlatch it and you can remove it. Your light bulb is hidden under a metal tin cover. Depress a small plastc latch in front of it and lift the cover...you light bulb is right there...good luck!

I currently have a non-working over the range microwave, I have bought a replacement. How to I take one down and replace it with the new one?Are the brackets interchangeable?

What brand Microwave are you removing and what brand are you installing? If the are not the same brand they will mount differently. On an older GE you remove the two screws holding the unit in place. They are located on top of the unit on the front. Look in the cabinet above the microwave. After you disconnect the vent pipe the unit slides forward and out. On some other brands the unit will pivot down and then you lift it off a mounting bracket. To make the job as easy as possible and to make sure the vent pipe does not have to be moved, remove the old unit before buying a replacement. Look at how it mounts. Then buy the same brand and it should mount the exact same way, so you could use the old mount. But even then the manufacture may have changed the way it is mounted. I just replaced a GE with a Whirlpool and they mount completely differently. I even had to move the vent pipe 2" to the right. So stick with the same brand and hope they have not change the mount.

TRYING TO TAKE MICRO OFF THE WALL AND IT WON'T BUDGE. NEED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

There are two phillips head screws holding the unit in from the top and a slotted bracket on the wall or cabinet back. Usually you can remove the screws from the cabinet directly above the unit. Support the microwave from the front while removing the screws. CAUTION ! Use two people! While holding the unit level, lift up underneath the rear of the microwave to release it from the slotted bracket in the back and bring the microwave straight out.

Need installation instructions for otr microwave please

I just pulled my ge spacemaker xl1800 out. The mounting plate installs on the wall and two 4-6 inch bolts go through the cabinet above and into the top-front of the unit. The two top mounting holes are about 8 1/2 in. from the back of the unit and about 1 1/4 in from the side. If you don't have the mounting bracket that comes with the unit, you will have to use a 2x4 or similar to support the back & bottom of the unit.

I'm trying to remove a Hotpoint RVM58003. I removed four long bolts from the top but it does not move. Any help on what I need to do to remove it? Dan

The Hotpoint RVM58003 (circa 1984) cannot be lifted off a hanger after the four top screws are removed because it doesn't have a separate pre-installed hanger like newer units do. The rear mounting screw holes are part of the outer frame of the unit, which requires removal of the Microwave sub-assembly of the Hotpoint RVM58003 to expose the outer metal frame and the array of pre-drilled rear mounting holes before the rear mounting screw(s) can be accessed and removed. Based on my recent experience removing a Hotpoint RVM58003 Microwave Hood from 1984 it appears the unit was originally installed this way too. Please note that this is a very involved process. Basic steps are: 1) Unplug AC power to the unit, or turn off the circuit breaker. 2) Remove the top plastic grill over the door and control panel (2 screws). 3) Next to the grill screws remove the larger left/right screws holding the Microwave sub-assembly in. 4) Drop down the hinged light bulb/air filter cover panel (mine had 7 screws). 5) Remove the small metal cover plate on the right under the control panel. This exposes the Microwave sub-assembly electrical connector. 6) Disconnect the Microwave sub- assembly connector. 7) Carefully pull the Microwave sub-assembly out of the frame and set aside. You may need to fish the power cord through the cabinet or unscrew the power cord terminals. NOTE: this is best done with a helper because this sub-assembly is about 25-30 pounds. 8) Once the sub-assembly is out the rear plate is exposed and the rear mounting screws can be removed. I found that the GE/Hotpoint Owner's Manual does not have installation instructions. Neither does the GE web site, they only have the Owner's Manual. For more specific help and instructions I suggest calling The GE Answer Center at 800-626-2000 or hiring a professional installer experienced with this older style Microwave Hood.

Replacing charcoal filter on ge jvm2070

Please be sure the oven is unplugged.

There are two Phillips head screws on the very top of the outside of the cabinet above the vent.

When they're removed the vent grille just snaps out.

In some cases, an installer may have installed the oven so that the screws are covered up by the bottom cabinet. I hope that's not the case here...
