That shouldn't happen, the only thing I could think of is that the cable that connects to the output of the computer is damage, sometimes they break on the inside.
Try using a headphone, and visit the sites that does have sound and also the one that does not have sound. If they all work, then it could be the cable. If you still have the same problem using the headphones, then uninstall the drivers and re-install them, or get another sound card. Best of luck.

I stopped having sound coming from the speakers. I checked and we are not on mute, and the volume is turned up high.

Make sure all your connections are tight and you have power to your speakers...Then go Start>Control Panel>Sound and Hardware>Sound, after you are in here make sure that your speakers are selected as default device.
Hope this helps, pls rate

Have external gateway speakers

First make sure your sound cards are working properly. 1) Check the master volume of your PC. Go to start menu, control panel, sounds speech and audio devices, sounds and audio devices - i) In volume tab click the speaker volume and check whether all the left, right, etc.. volumes are in medium or high. ii) In audio tab click the volume tab of sound playback and make sure that the master volume is not in mute and all the volumes are either in medium level or at 100%. After making these changes try playing any music. Even if the problem persists go and get your sound card checked in an authorised service centre.

Thanks & Regards,
Shiva

Found a solution that works. Power down the receiver. Unplug it from the wall. Wait 10 minutes. Plug it back in and power it back up. Worked like a champ to fix this exact problem with my TX-SR601.
