Hello Mike;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

Your defrost problem may be your control board but, that is not where I would start.

In answer to your question, your control board is in the top front of your freezer section. When changing the control board ground yourself by rubbing your hands on something steel. Static electricity will knock a control board out.

More likely your problem is your defrost heater. You check your defrost heater with a multi-meter. Set the meter to the lowest Ohm setting. Place one meter lead on one end of the heater connector and the other lead on the other end of the heater connector. If the meter reads '0' or OL or infinity the heater is bad. It should read something like 35 or greater Ohms.

When changing you defrost heater it is common practice to also change the Bi-meWhere is the main electronic control board located - 25304309-iykvtnwbj1poqn502gcweelx-3-15.jpguploads/images/25304309-iykvtnwbj1poqn502gcweelx-3-15.jpg" alt="25304309-iykvtnwbj1poqn502gcweelx-3-15.jpg" class="h_mi" />

Both of these components are located behind the back freezer wall.

This is a major task to change these components. Bottom freezers are not service friendly.

1.) Completely empty the freezer (Unplugged).
2.) Take off the freezer front door.
3.) Remove the ice maker assembly.
4.) With a screw driver pop off the thermostat cover plate in the back upper right.
5.) Unscrew the back cover.
6.) Remove the center air vent. This is held in with plastic tabs. with a screw driver pop up the center tab and the side tabs.
7.) Pull the back cover out. You will need to flex the cover to clear the side rails.

Unless you are really good with basic electrical and hand tools, I do not suggest you attempt this repair.

A local service company will charge you about $400.00 or more.

Defrost timer

The defrost timer is part of the electronic control baord located on the back of the refrigerator. If the freezer is not defrosting check the thermistor on the evaporator(freezer) coils. It can cause the control board to thing it doesn'y need defrosting. a common problem

Defrost freezer of kenmore elite refrigerator?

Other things that may help you:The defrost timer / or board will never be in the Freezer. Other than that it could be in the refrigerator section behind a plastic cover or metal cover on the back outside. It could also be under neath the front corners or center of the front kick plate.

A timer you can turn the cam clock wise til it clicks. A board will depend on the manufacturer as to how to send into defrost for a test. A sensor on the defrost type board may be required to by-pass into a defrost.

The freezer section has the only cooling coil. It sounds like it is blocked with frost and thus wont let the air circulate from freezer to refrigerator.

There is a defrost timer, (or board), a defrost heater, and a defrost safety thermostat. Any One of these or a combination of 2 can be your problem. If you have a energy efficient model that has electronic controls then you will have a board. The procedures for checking the circuit on a board vary by manufacturer of the board used and manufacturer of the appliance.

The defrost heater always has resistance and is attached to the freezer coil.
The defrost thermostat is also attached to the heater electrically, unless it is an electronic sensor type. Sensor types have a range of resistance that needs to be known to check and varies slightly with the temperature of the sensor.

If I haven't lost you here you maybe equipped with the life experiences that will allow you to do most of these checks. If its over your understanding I recommend you contact a reliable technician.

If this helps you please rate me as high as you can and thank you for using fixya.l

Kenmore Elite Bottom Freezer Mod. #795 75544401

The unit was built bt LG. It is a computer controled unit and the timer is built into the main control board on back of the unit. However, the most likely cause of the broblem is the defrost terminator located on the evap on the upper right hand corner. Also, try unpugging the unit it will reset the computer board. You will also have to defrost the unit.

How can i test the heater of a side by side elctronic refrigerator like kenmore and frigidaire, the electronic control board has no test switch

I'm absolutely no expert, but I just had a repair person come diagnose my Kenmore Elite control board as being bad. Rather than testing the board, he tested the other components related to my problem (fridge wasn't auto-defrosting), and since the other parts tested okay, he said it had to be my control board.

Refrigerator warm

this particular model has onlya defrost thermo and heater. the defrost timer is actually built into the electronic control.behind the kickplate there should be a tech sheet to aid in r\troubleshooting the unit.all are a little different but youll be able to go into the electronic control andtest the parts indivually. all you reallly need to do is "force a defrost" cycle.
if need be a continuity test can be preformed on the defrost thermostat( clipped onto the the top of the evaqporator coil) as well as the defrost heater which is also located in hte evap section ( its wrapped around the coil(u-shaped element) heater should also have continuity.
defrost thermo IS the MOST common issue with any defrost problem. heres a link to gives a location as well as part numbers if needed 35is thermo and 33 is the heater
