Question about Computers & Internet

Why is it I cannot open an MS Access file more than one time before rebooting the PC?

I can open the access file on the network, and not even manipulate any of the data I just click on the object "Exit" on the page. It will close, but will not allow me to reopen it until I reboot the PC. Technician here has run Office Repair Tool, no effect; System Restore which fails on both restore points from last month (nothing older).

Also, if I do any work and save the changes, others can see my work and add/make changes to the DB of their own, save and close. They can reopen it again no problem (only one person at a time allowed to have the file open at any one time. Someone else logged into my laptop and same problem happened to them, where they have no such issues on their own laptop.

Just for troubleshooting try a save as and see what happens. If no change, unshare the renamed file.

I bet it has something to do with the sharing.

Have you tried doing a "save as" under a different name?

Testimonial: "No. It's a shared file for the department, so I didn't want to rename it. I suppose I could do that just for my own testing purposes."

How to fix error in database: microsoft office access has detected corruption in this file

System restore will not restore any data files, only system files.
Databases normally need periodic sorting as their indexes get corrupted. I don't use any microripoffsoft stuff, only Open Office and iMac. Try reindexing your file with Open Office

MS Access database recovery

Have you tried creating a NEW MDB, and then IMPORTING the objects from the Crashed/Corrupted MDB?

This will SOMETIMES serve to rescue most if not all of the corrupted entities .

You can try:

Lenovo 3000 J 115 desktop running 32bit, XP, SP3. Is infected with phony "MS Remove Tool" spy/malware, which has taken over most operations. Can't back up any files to CD--computer tells me...

Hi!
I suggest we scan your computer in Safe Mode with Networking. Please tap F8 button as soon as you turn the computer ON( I mean when you press the power button), then a list of available options will show up, please use the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode with Networking. Then push Enter. Once you access Safe Mode with Networking. Please go to this link: http://www.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=42782&t=4&i=1
Download and install that software then scan the computer. After running a full scan, it will ask you to reboot the computer. Just let it boot up, no need to tap f8 this time, you will be booted to your normal windows. That should fix it
Hope this helps.

Write into excel format

You can use ADO or SQL to open the excel file directly (provided it is constructed correctly, ie fields names) and write the data to it without Access.
That might be eaiser thatn converting it from Access to Excel, if that can even be done.

Access problem

see if the LDB file still exist and delete it...

Whenever you open an Access database, a file with the same name as the database and an extension of LDB will be opened automatically. For example if you open Northwind.mdb in the samples directory of your Access/Office installation, a file called Northwind.ldb will be generated. This new file keeps track of users and the objects that require some form of locking in the database. When all users have exited gracefully from the database, the LDB file is closed down and deleted.
