So you have tested the line with a known good phone to know line is good. You may have issues on the port on the base where it may have corroded. Check the base where the phone line attaches and see if it appears discolored. If so try using a cotton swab and a little rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts. Another common problem I have encountered with phone cords is the locking tab breaks and thus you can have poor or intermittent connectivity. A white pencil eraser might also work to clean the contacts as well. Either way use caution as the connections in there are fragile.

Why no dialing tone

no dialing tone indicates an open line or an extension that has not been hung up properly. IF you have a corded phone then it may be in the cord (broken at the hand piece or at the base) On the technical side it may be from the wires in are not paired properly ( go google and check for phone line pairing) and on the financial side the account has not been paid

One tel sigma 2200. No dial tone.

are you using dsl broadband this could interfere . Type of signalling may be a problem. If multi tone or decadic on phone line does not match phone settings but I would expect you hear dial tone. do you have cable plugged into a phone socket it could be a internet rj45 socket. They look the same at the wall especially in an office environment.

No Dial Tone from BT Diverse 7110 Single

Check that the volume on the handset is turned up, also replace the batteries or put in non-rechargeable ones to get the phone working at full capacity. If bought from Amazon you should be guaranteed for a year, not a month!

Phone not working

Hi Pam,
Try these..1...remove your telephone line from base unit and fix it into a working land phone and check whether is it having normal dial tone.If it's having engage tone(beep beep...)remove paralleled phones and re connect to cordless base unit.
2.If line is ok (normal dial tone with full volume) & still display indicates line is busy, your main base unit must be having faulty components inside.Commonly these defects happen in thundering or surges through telephone lines. You have to take full set to a repair shop.

Need to change phone back to tone dialing

Here's what the manual says: Changing the Dial Mode (Tone or Pulse Dialing) (HS1 only) Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most phone networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, follow the steps below to modify your phone?s settings: With the phone in standby, press and hold [cid/menu]. Press [vol/ / ] to move the pointer to select DIAL. Press [select/channel] to set the phone to pulse dialing. Press [end]. Return the handset to the base. The handset communicates the new setting to the base, and the base activates the setting on any other handsets. Hope this helps out. K

Regarding the Philips SE445 cordless phone/answerphone. I posted my problem where it rings 4 times then continues to ring without cutting into the answerphone. My phone is now fixed and working as it should which is great. I was unable to make calls because I had no dial tone and although Virgin checked my line and said it was fine, it obviously wasn't. The problem was with the line in the Exchange Box - the big green boxes that are located on the roadside - the line was broken there. Once fixed, I had my dial tone and the SE445 is working perfectly. To nomad1066, I would insist that BT check their Exchange Boxes as this is probably where the problem lies. Check whether you have a dial tone. Hope this helps.

No Dial Tone

I have found this free link on BT site for you
http://www.shop.bt.com/content/uni2/documentation/498n/025455.pdf

If the second handset works ok on the base and the first handset doesn't, then you are right...the fault lies with the first handset. There are batteries ( special type ) in the handset, it sound as if either the batteries are dead, or not charged ( try charging them for 12 hours on the good base station ) or the connection is bad.
