Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Is this tech support?

The tv will not start up and stay on. it cycles power for as much as 30 minutes before staying on. In the meantime, the picture has lots of distortion when it is on. Once it stays on, there is not a problem until I shut it off again.

Fault with the main power supply regulator board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

I took the back off the tv and was expecting to see swollen or bulging capacitors like I havebeen reading about in this forum, but no. It looks liek new. Can it still be the power supply?

Capacitors are meant for energy storage. Never think a bulged capacitor only can cause a power regulator section circuit problem. There are so many other components on it; as you can see. Each and every one of it has its own duty [working]; when the power is switched on. If any one among it fails, we can say that the power supply board [SMPS]; is faulty. It will be best to replace this board as card basis. Just understand; I'm not a newbee in this service field. I'm working in this field of electronic equipment service; since 1974; am 65 years old now; and does the same till too; without any difficulty. I hereby share my practical experience with you all. Never forget: [An Ounce of practical experience is more than a Ton of Theory]; in any field of service.

My sony 52" keeps cutting

You may have bad power and your TV may be reacting to voltage drops or spikes. Is your TV powered through any kind of conditioner, surge supressor or filter? If not, you should consider getting one even if its only a $100 item. Stay away from standard or computer power strips though. Make sure it is not overheating and you have plenty of cooling space around the TV both to the sides and back, if it starts to overheat it will shut down. Or it could be a panel or internal board error. You'll need to get Sony tech to diagnose the problem. Are you getting any blinking lights when it shuts down? these are a code for the techs to let them know what to start looking at .

Sony 36brx800 shuts off on own

As a TV tech the simple answer is no! If you were a well qualified electronics tech but just not used to TV's then the answer might be a very weak 'maybe' and that's if you had a TV tech talking you thru the whole process on the phone.

shutdown probs can be the power supply, bad solder joints, or also very likely the high voltage power supply. Meaning the area where the TV generates upwards of 30 thousand volts!! The set has overvoltage protection that makes sure that things don't completely fry, catch on fire etc.

Ya really need special training to avoid getting zapped with tazer like volts or worse! Sorry but safety says better stay out of this one!

You have problems with a condenser that allow the power supply to maintan an acceptable level of voltage in order to keep the TV on. take to a tech to be fixed. unfortunatelly, this problem needs a tech to take measures in the circuitry to find the component that causes the problem.
