All you need to set both points and mag spacing is a ole fashioned pack of matches , 1st remove matches from pack save one match , clean cut end!! with flywheel removed take out 5/32 screw on tin cover inside there will be points and condenser ,(if it's old model ) if not there will be a pick up coil and stator (finned lookin thing) take clean cut match Not the red end but the other end carefully move point arm away and put match in gap let arm go and slowly pull match out , use screw right next to it to adjust till match pulls out easyly with lil friction ! tighten all screws well install cover and screw for it , next obtain new aluminium shaft key , dont reuse old one , carefully install in key way and put flywheel down on shaft , tap once with a rubber mallet to seat it , install shaft nut and lock if it has one , unfold match pack all the way open hold with one hand in place where flywheel edge is flattest and carefully install magneto till it just rubs paper with a light skuff ,tighen all bolts well and install cover, start engine normally !! it should start right there if all your parts are good !! easy hah!!

I have a Toro 724 snow blower model 38050. It runs great. Everything works and turns. When I engage the drive and or the auger. It kills the engine like when I shut off the key. If I hold the safety...

Sounds like the safety switch is bad or needs resetting. I had a lawn tractor that did that and I disconnected the safety switch. I know you should not do this but I did not want to put more money into this machine. It does work ok without it.

No spark on Tora 724 snowblower, mod. 38050 Ser. 1004915, new pts set at 0.020, emptied old gas, add new gas, condenser, plug, new coil. is there a grounding problem that I missed? Air gap setting behine...

Ground is only for shutting of engine if it not hooked up wont turn off. Take flywheel off and look at magnet. Make sure it has not moved meaning they are glued in place and wont fall off. Give it a wiggle and see if it slides. If it does pull magnet off and re-glue in place. You will see mark on inside where it was originally.

How do I set the Magneto timing on a toro 38050 snow blower

Use a .010 thousand feeler gauge ,or a business card if you don't have a gauge. Place between magnet on flywheel and magneto. Tighten magneto screws and you should be OK. If this doesn't start your machine check the shear key between your flywheel and crankshaft. If this shear key is dented as much as a hair, you could have starting problems. Let me know what you find. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Snow blower shorted out

If you're Toro electric blower is slowing down, throwing sparks, overheating or not starting you may need to replace the carbon brushes. Replacing brushes and cleaning commutator early can prevent damage to motor armature!
There are Electric Motor replacement carbon brushes on E-bay for all three motor sizes (7 AMP, 10.5 AMP, and 12 AMP) of Toro Leaf Blowers (Toro Rake and Vac Super and Ultra Blower and "850" Vacuums)
Search E-bay for: "Toro Blower Carbon Brush"

- Toro 850 Super Blower Shredder-Vac 12 Amp (model 51575).
- 10.5 Amp leaf blowers Toro Old through Toro New model 51573.
- 7 Amp leaf blowers Toro model 51586 and other Toro 7 amp blowers.

My snowblower just started back firing, why?

Snow is melting on the engine and causing the spark wiring and/or magneto to short out...
Stop blowing snow and run the engine at a fast idle for awhile to dry off the motor...then it will work again..

It wont spark at all. No fire. Just put a new spark plug so that's not the issue. This lawnmower is only 1.5 years old. Thanks

Could be magneto bad, wire from magneto bad, ground on magneto bad, or the clearance between the flywheel and the magneto is rusted up if it was outside. Clean flywheel with sandpaper and set magneto gap using a match book flap.
