1 Answer

I have a kenmore 11072942100 gas dryer.

I have changed the solenoids 3 times now. the dryer will ignite and dry a load but when I turn it on again it wont light up. what could the problem be? It spins and all I get is cold air.

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

It sounds like one of the heat related components is starting to fail. You need to check all of these components with your multi-meter set to the lowest Ohms. With the dryer unplugged:

1.) Radiant Sensor.
This radiant sensor for a gas-heated dryer senses the air temperature in the drum and signals the coils to charge and the igniter to spark when the temperature falls too low. This is located next to the igniter.

The sensing surface may be covered in soot and requires cleaning.

Disconnect the two wires from the contactors. Ohm it out with your meter. If the meter reads '0' this component is good. If it reads anything else it is bad.

3.) Thermistor.
Ohm this out the same way as above.

4.) Glow Bar Igniter.

Although this component may glow, it may not have enough power to open the gas valve. I Ohm out an igniter @ 137 Ohms, installed a new igniter which Ohm out at 167 Ohms; therefore the igniter was weak and wI have a kenmore 11072942100 gas dryer. - 25304059-bkvywf5rc1reqors4q4ptmqv-1-15.jpg"http://i.fixya.net/uploads/images/25304059-bkvywf5rc1reqors4q4ptmqv-1-15.jpg" alt="25304059-bkvywf5rc1reqors4q4ptmqv-1-15.jpg" class="h_mi" />

Dryer runs, can see burner is firing but heat setting seems stuck on ;Delicate cycle. Taking 3 hours to dry a load of towels.

gas coil condensors may not be working properly as they set the gas pressure needed to keep flame going hot. can check them with a multi meter however if flames stays on you may want to check the venting system first u might be surprised bad venting can slow down drying. check in machine and at exhaust to home. Again Each time you see the glow bar igniter come on it should ignite the gas burner. If you find the glow bar igniter glowing red for a short time and then fading off without any burner ignition would indicate weak solenoid coils. The coils are mounted on top of the gas valve and they both will need to be removed and replaced. In order to access the solenoid coils will require removing the lint filter, removing the two screws which was hidden by the lint filter and raising the top and removing the front panel.

Dryer heats for 5 minutes then no heat, but keeps tumbling

Perhaps the flame sensor is not working. If it does not sense heat, it will shut off the gas. You might go online and search for a manual to help you troubleshoot, or go to:

for troubleshooting help and parts. I hope this is of help to you.

Kenmore gas dryer

Most gas dryers that work intermittent is caused by bad solenoids on the gas valve assembly. Replace them (which is real easy) and all the other problems will go away. Here is my gas valve solenoid replacement video:

Kenmore Series 80 gas dryer, clothes take 3 hours to dry

Hello, This problem is going to be your safety valve coils...basically they get old and over time of heating then cooling develop a short when they heat up...It may appear the gas lights to start but then goes out until the safety valve coils cool back down. Here is a picture of the coils 57d5263.jpgThis The coils are mounted to the gas safety valve, This should solve your problem. Hope this helps, Please feel free to comment again if you have any further questions or concerns. Good Luck! Mike

Dryer works but no heat

Many times when the gas solenoids get weak the gas will light for a very short time and not light again. One coil has 3 connections and is used to make the ig-niter glow hot and turn the gas valve on too. If it becomes weak over time it just does not have the strength to hold the gas valve open. Go to my page below and enter the model number listed inside the door frame. If you cannot find the part here go to sears parts and see if you can locate a kit of 2 solenoids. My site also offers free help.(click on link below)

Gas Dryer won't stay hot

There is a thermoelectric eye that says it is OK to keep the gas burner on. If this sensor is defective or blocked from "seeing" the gas flame is properly lit, it will turn off the gas flow (safety) override solenoid. With the unit unplugged make sure that the optical path on the upper right (1:30 CW position) flame tube inside sensor window is clean. The rattle you hear is probably the safety gas shut-off solenoid engaging. If you need more help, please ask -- SWT

Intermitten Heat up

make sure that your vent is not plug up can you go outside your house and feel good air coming out the vent when the dryer is turn on if so the only other things it could be is the coils that sit on the ignotor assmebly or the high limit termistat is not working properly the coils are little black circle coils that sit in the ignitor assmly should have a metal braket across the top of them holding them in you can check resistance on these coils if you have an meter
