Rinse aid dispenser can receive a maximum level of 140 ml rinse agent. Consumption rinse agent could be per wash cycle of 2 to 7 ml depending on the settings.
Thus 140 ml is enough for 20-70 wash cycles, depending on the degree of adjustment.

SOURCE: Filling the rinse aid compartment

1. Open the container by turning the lid anticlockwise.
2. Add the rinse aid until the container is completely full.
The indicator will be completely dark
3. Top up the rinse aid when the indicator becomes
clear.
(Only for models with rinse aid indicator light)
Top up with rinse aid when the rinse aid indicator light on
the control panel illuminates.
Ensure that the lid is closed after every refill.

Fdm550 dishwasher rinse aid feeder is blocked I think. Vacuum on opening - rinse aid compartment still full after many washes

Get some boiling water and poor it into the rinse aid slot that should clear any blockage. But also a reminder that the dishwasher should not be using much rinse aid.

What do these mean on a zanussi dishwasher model DE 6854

The top light is apparently to indicate that the salt (!) has run out.

The bottom light is apparently to indicate that rinse aid has run out.

For the record, that seems to be a Zanussi DE-6854 dishwasher, and I found the manual here: (link)

"Special salt can be added in one of two ways: 1) If you are using dishwasher detergent that already contains salt, the detergent including the salt is placed in the detergent compartment. - In this case the water softener must manually be set to 1 and electronically to 1 to ensure that the special salt is taken from the detergent container only. 2) If you are using dishwasher detergent and salt separately, the special salt is to be put into the salt container. - In this case the water softener must manually be set to 1 or 2 and electronically between 1 and 5 (depending on the water hardness in your area) to ensure that the special salt is taken from the salt container only. Only use salt specifically designed for use in dishwashers. All other types of salt not specifically designed for use in a dishwasher, especially table salt, will damage the water softener. Only fill with salt just before starting one of the washing programmes. This will prevent any grains of salt or salty water, which may have been spilt, remaining on the bottom of the machine for any period of time, which may cause corrosion." (Page 6)

"Only use branded rinse aid for dishwashers. Never fill the rinse aid dispenser with any other substances (e.g. dishwasher cleaning agent, liquid detergent). This would damage the appliance." (Page 7)

The manual also explains how to turn the Rinse Aid light off permanently if you do not wish to use rinse aid.

Good luck!

How to use 'rinse aid'

Yes, remove that "dial" and pour in the rinse aid. Replace the dial and set it to one of those numbers (or maximum). If you use a low value and find spots on the dishes, try setting the value higher. This will increase the amount of rinse aid released during the washer cycle. The manual for another dishwasher, http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfimages/4a/4a78e197-7da5-432d-b3be-e176eb727d58.pdf , can give you an idea of how this works. The rinse aid information is on page 11 of that PDF.

I hope this helps.

My dishwashers rinse aid compartment red light is always on even after fillinf it us with rinse aid

That just means that your dispenser isn't sensing that the ring agent is full. You'll need to order and replace the dispenser to fix the issue.

Good luck

Whirlpool gold diswasher - sudddenly dishes/glassware/silver are all cloudy. rinse aid doesn't help. have tried running machine empty to "clean out" pipes, etc. plz help.

alot of people think the rinse aid is full but, its not. how to properly fill unit.
1. open compartment
2.fill with jet dry
3.close compartment
4.lower and raise door 3 times
5. open compartment
6.add more jet dry
7. lower and raise the door to see if it still looks full.
the reason for this is there is air in the dispenser and this process will take out the air to be completely filled the dispenser.

Greetings from Downunder, i have a HDWSE12 dishwasher Rinse aid light flashes all the time and it won t go. I put dish liquid in rinse aid container - still flashes. Don't normally have to use rinse...

the rinse aid compartment has to be one of the biggest things in your unit. it helps with drying process or you will have wet dishes, helps with spots, and also with the cleaning process, this is what you can do . add jet dry or rinse aid not soap .fill compartment then close door ,then raise and lower door 3times then open the compartment door and add more repeat this process until you cant add anymore. this will pull all of the air out of the dispenser and allow you to fully fill compartment . the light should go off .
