Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Hello, I own a Technics SL-235 among other technics among other turntables. My problem with this one is that while it sounds very good, there is a point whete it slows down every few seconds with different records. Its very very subtle but its there. the light strobe does not seem to be calibrated right and i tried adding or removing the pitch from the front knob without luck. Its always moving. Overall the TT is in great shape, very clean outside and inside. Belt is strong and tight. I wonder if the problem is related to the fact that its a servo automatic model. I'd really aporeciate your help!

The pitch control maybe dirty a cleaner for this may help! Use only with the power unplugged! as some cleaners are too wet! let it dry then try unit if this does not work it may need to be calibrated. With the service manual this can be done if the right test tools.

Multi-play technics sl-235 spindle occasionally not dropping records

If you have only purchased it in the last 6 months it should still be under warranty and therefore covered by Technics. Don't do anything to it yourself and contact them.

Technics SL-D33 Channel drop.

There's nothing wrong with the turntable then. It's your receiver that's the problem. In order to hear a magnetic cartridge it has to go via a pre-amp. It's this pre-amp that has failed in your receiver. It's only used by a turntable so wouldn't affect anything else. You should be able to trace this pre-amp by following the turntable socket wires. It will probably be a small IC that has failed. If you look up the number you should find it.

Distorted sound on Technics SL-1200/1210

You could be getting acoustic feedback from the speakers to the TT's. Lower the volume or somehow isolate them from room sounds and vibrations.

All my vinyl sounds warped on turntable

Most common problem is the belt getting soft, especially if it has sat for a long time. It will get a weak spot where it sat on the drive pulley and every time the turntable goes around and hits that weak spot it will slow down a little making it sound like a warped album.

The belts are usually very easy to replace. Usually just lift off the turntable or there might be a small clip on the center pin, then it lifts off. Replacement belts can be ordered from several places, as shown in this search... http://www.google.com/search?&q=SL-B200+Technics+turntable+belt
