How dusty is the computer? Remove the card, and blow the slot out. I have had intermittent problems just like this with my Gateway. after I cleaned it, it seems to be happy. also make sure your power supply is big enough. this can cause the computer not to start. That card needs a minimum of a 300 watt power supply. I recommend a 400 or a 450 watt power supply just because it will run cooler due to lower stress on it.

See if you can get to safe mode. Write back to see if you can, and we will give you instructions on how to proceed from there.

Otherwise you will need a restore or winxp OS installation disk.

SOURCE: Windows Installation Lock-up

I would re-do the re-install. It didn't finish .. It isn't complete. It is always a good idea to have nothing and I mean NOTHING attached to your computer when doing an install/re-install except monitor, keyboard and mouse. Was the GeForce in it originally (not that it really matters)

SOURCE: pci error

I would suggest that you cancel the device installation, download the drivers for various components (Sound, Chipset, Network etc.) from the HP website. Install those drivers and restart. Check if that new device found message comes again and let me know.
Hope it helps.

Hi :) Did you remove the drivers for the old video card before you installed the new card? and if not you need to make sure if you have onboard video that it is shut off in the Bios and plus the F3 button just after post and pick VGA MODE before going in to windows.

When trying to install a new video card, the manual said to remove current video drivers. I did so but it removed the onboard video driver as well. So now when I start it nothing somes up on the monitor...

If you have the cd or dvd for your new vid card, try installing the drivers from it.

Another thing to try is take the vid card out of thr slot and reinstall it back in again.

Not possible, your computer doesn't have a PCI EXPRESS expansion slot. Your computer only have one pci (older) slot, AGP 8x slot.

Trying to install geforce 100 card in hp slimline 5257

Ok you look for the slot that fits your card, it will be a long thin colored plastic socket on the motherboard you insert the card into machine, If there is a card installed already remove that and insert the new one where you took the old one from, plugging it in will disable any onboard video device, if any. Now boot your PC, it will ask you for drivers at boot up insert the DVD that came with your card into the DVD and run the setup, or simply "point" it to the DVD where it will find the correct drivers and install. Reboot and you should be ready to go.

Corrupted screen display even at BIOS startup

The bios boots without loading the Graphics drivers. The problem is with the monitor itself.
Buy a new monitor. Keep an eye out on they often sell monitors at 22" for 169.00
