Dell desktop 520 doesnt recognize hard drive

Sounds like a bad hard drive or a BIOS problem. If you have access to a working PC, try connecting the hard drive (providing the connections match) and see if it's recognized. Try borrowing another hard drive to see if your machine recognizes that one. Your bios is a good place to begin.

sounds like your hard drive has crashed. you can either simply reset the cmos and try again, if it doesn't work still you'll probably need to replace the drive.

I don't know where to connect the sable cable from the hard drive to the motherboard.

I'm not sure what a Sable Cable is, but if you're talking about a cable that from the hard drive to the motherboard look real close with a flashlight and the slots are labeled on the board. Normally if that is the only hard drive it will go into Slot 1, or IDE 1 or SATA 1. Sometimes they start numbering them with zero and if that's the case put it in 0.

This sounds like your hard drive has failed or the connection is faulty.

Disconnect the tower from the mains, take off the cover and check the ribbon connector between the hard drive and the motherboard, one may have come adrift. If so, remake the connection, if not, then the drive has failed.

The only way around it is to replace it with another and re-install the operating system

My hard drive powers up and then shuts down and wont load on any system

take out your harddrive and connect it to a power supply(note do not connect it with your motherboard IDE or sata cable;see if the hard drive spin or not;if it stop spinning or hear quake sound then replacing the hard drive will solve the problem;if the hard drive spin;then remove all the  peripherals that are connected to your motherboard check the RAM and PROCESSOR with another motherboard;if they work fine then the problem lies within the motherboard;reset the motherboard BIOS by removing the CMOS battery and all the jumper ( if jumper are present) wait for about 30 seconds.then connect all the part as it were connected ealier and check if it solve your problem;if the problem still exist;replace the motherboard.

hope this will be little helpful in diagnosing your problem

Sound will not come one

Hi there;
You recently replaced your hard drive and now your sound does not work?
If you computer boots I would guess your hard drive is connected correctly.
I would check your sound component connections.
Could be inside the case at the sound card or as simple as you unplugged the transformer to the speakers. Also check your sound software to make sure it's not muted.
Hope this helps

It takes @least 30 minutes to boot

It sounds like your computer is not recognising the hard drive. Go into the bios (keep pressing the delete key as your computer starts up ) and find 'hard drive auto select' and press enter to see if your computer can recognise the hard drive. Even if this works it sounds like your hard drive is on the way out.
1/ Make sure no floppy or CD in drives
2/ Check Hard Drive cable connections, both ends
3/ Go into BIOS and check drive is recognised in there
