Replaced deteriorated line from tank to oil pump
SOURCE: old homelite XL chainsaw pumping bar oil into engine while runnin
Check that the oiler hole and the hole in the bar that it pumps into aren't clogged. The sawdust running under the chain and be deposited in the oiler hole in the bar until it plugs it solid. That will keep the oil from havintg a place to go and build up pressure.

If the pump is a piston type, there must be valves on both sides of the pump to control the flow of oil in one direction. The one in the tank is called is called a 'duck-bill' valve and may be mal-functioning. Can you move the diaphragm by hand to see if it pumps anything? Did you run the engine without the bar and chain attached to make sure the bar oil-ports were not choked up. Oil should ooze out of the engine side port when running. Hope some of this helps!

The pump should be located just behind the clutch assembly which needs to be removed to access the pump. Have you run the engine with the bar and chain removed? The oil should ooze out of the engine side port where the bar fits up to. If not, then the pump is certainly suspect. There is a filter in the oil tank which might be plugged. The clutch has left-hand threads and can be difficult to remove. Don't try to use an impact wrench with adapter as it will cause the flywheel key to shear. Hope this helps!
