Question about Toshiba 46XV640U 46-inch Hdmi Lcd Tv 16 9 Widescreen 1920 X 1080

1 Answer

My toshiba 46xv640u goes through the initial setup every time after turning it off and turning it on later.

I updated the firmware. No change. Every time I turn off TV I have to set it up again before I can watch anything. Has anyone else seen this?

Most newer LCD, LED, or Plasma models "flash" the setup into non-volatile memory devices so this is not normal. If you are requested to "save" the configuration and don't or don't know how, maybe this would happen. Even power outages should not cause what you are seeing unless the configuration is somehow not be retained when the power is removed or by chance you are using a power strip to turn it off when it needs constant power to retain the settings.

I am familiar with saving the settings. I have been building my own computers since 1990. I save the settings then turn off the tv with the remote. I start it up again and wham, I have to go thru the initial setup every time. The set didn't do this when I purchased the tv. It started later.

OK. Have you opened it up to look at the capacitors on the boards, particularly the power supply and the main computer board? It sounds to me like the flashing Power supply isn't working. If you see bulging caps, then I'd replace them but make sure you get low ESR ones. Lately, most of my own electronics are failing because of bad electrolytic caps.

MY tv that goes straight to the screensaver mode like it would on pc. sony bravia kdl32nl140 is the tv.

J, it sounds like it may not be getting any input from cable or satellite, try switching cable and inputs around, try VCR or DVD player. You may need a firmware or software update.
Some forums say to unplug and wait 10 min. then it resets.
