Does the DVD have a RJ45 network jack? If so plug it into you network and use the menus to update.

The TV does not need a network connect at this time but you don't need to unplug unless you need to use the patch cable. I have a little 8 port switch as I have the TV, WD Live, Denon AVR, Blu-Ray, Synoloogy NAS, old netgear NAS all connected to the net.

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Do I have to have an internet connection to play only DVD on a Vizio vbr220?

You should not no. Most players only need to be connected to the internet to do updates for the device and/or for bluray playback codecs. A regular dvd is a standard format and should not require any update to playback.

Vbr120 firmware updates

The best advice I have to offer for the Vizio VBR120 is to replace it with a better player from LG, Sony or Samsung. I replaced mine with a LG BR540 and haven't looked back. With Vizio you get what you pay for, junk. There is no update for a Vizio VBR120.

Can't update firmware on a vizio vbr231

If you go into the "settings" option and look under "info" it should show your current software version. The most recent update is VBR231A_3_3_035_VBR_36_01 from December of 2011. there haven't been any releases since then, unfortunately. There doesn't appear to be any sites or mirrors to download this update.

My blu-ray player is only playing dvd instead of blu-rays i have updated my player but still not playing blu-rays disc at all

First confirm that the firmware update that you used is in fact for that very model.

Then check the region code for the discs in question.

Try the update again.

I have a Vizio bluray DVD player that has been great until last night when it had a message to do an update which I did and it said it was successful and to restart the player which I did. Now it only will...

I am so sorry. The only thing you can do is alert Vizio and tell them that their firmware update has messed up your DVD player. See what they say.
The only thing I can think of is to unplug the DVD player and maybe just maybe that will role back the player. But I wouldn't hold out much hope.
Again, I am sorry and worried that there is no role back feature on my Bluray.
