Question about 2000 Chevy Astro - Passenger van, with factory roof rails - Base Rack System

Engine starts, then shuts off. Where should I look?

Many new parts including fuel injectors, mass air flow sensor, distributor cap and rotor, and many more. It has good fuel pressure. It has spark while engine cranks.

    is ther good spray in the Injectors?or is dripping ?check to see if ther is Hose Off sounds like hose off then it will die How many Km,s Does it have ? check the timing maybe ?does it backfire ?

Does it run good for the brief period after it starts? Is the vehicle new to you? Does the security light come on after it starts?

    It runs smooth for about a second or two , then shuts off. I am the original owner. I don't know about the security light, but the battery had been disconnected for a period of time for servicing the vehicle before reconnecting the battery to attempt to start it.

    I suspect your problem is with GM's Passlock II security system. In your case, it may just need a relearn. Here is a link showing that. In my brothers 98 Chevy Malibu, I actually had to do a bypass because he kept having problems with this. It involves measuring resistance and soldering in matching resistors. Maybe after watching the video, you can see if your security light is acting the same way.

    The security light comes on when starting the van, but it does not flash. When I turn the key all the way to start as in the video procedure, it will start again right away, but it shuts off immediately just as it did the first time and I can continue that as long as the battery holds out. Are there any sensors or controls that cause the computer to shut down the engine if it does not receive the signals it is looking for?

    I wouldn't worry about the security light flash thing. I really think the passlock II is messing you up. That is the control that will shut things down if it doesn't see the right resistance. It's pretty easy to bypass and costs almost nothing if you can do it yourself or have a friend. Here is a link to how to do it. Don''t worry about it not being the same vehicle. The procedure should be the same once you locate the correct wires. That is easily done also. They will be coming down from your key, They are not very big around either. Don't hesitate to ask if you have further questions.

If one of the sensors is failing, you should be getting a check engine light and a trouble code.
When you say it has fuel, do you have injector pulse and fuel pressure in the rail ?

Runs for less than a half hour and shuts down. Fuel to the rail but not into injectors.Fuel pump, fuel filter,brain, module, crank sensor, oil pressure sensor have all been changed. Starts again after...

Hello: If this is a 4cylinder engine with the distributor on the back of the engine (toward the passenger compartment) I would rebuild/replace the distributor. Including distributor cap and rotor.

Engine stalls out on occasion like the key was shut off have change air flow sencer mapp sencer new vaccum lines

Check your plugs, wires, distributor cap/rotor, fuel filter, and air filter.

If I had to take a guess, I would try replacing the Distributor Cap & Rotor, as well as the Fuel Filter. Also, try running some Gumout Fuel Injector Cleaner and a tank of good gas through it.

Runs ruff changed mass air flow plug wires plugs

check for vacuum leaks, check distributor cap and rotor button, clean or replace as necessary. Use quality injector cleaner.

your problem appears to be the idle control motor located on the air intake manifold it is a small motor that goes bad quite often. Other items that can cause this is a bad /clogged air filter or a tune up (spark plugs and wires), or clogged fuel injectors. to clean the injectors you can buy a container of fuel system cleaner and pour it into the gas tank and as you drive it cleans the system.

Once the fuel system is cleaned via a tankful of cleaner & gas then the idle controller motor would be next on the list to be replaced.
