My wife's 2005 trailblazer will not shift into reverse until it's been running for a little while. All other gears shift fine. We just bought if a few months ago. Prognosis?

Check the oil if you haven't already. If that makes no difference, change the tranny oil and filter. It can make a world of difference. Another thing it could be is your fuel filter. The engine is starving for gas, and can't shift properly.

SOURCE: my transmission slips going through second gear if

this problem is a common failure associated with your shift solenoinds inside your tranny. of course a shop is not gonna tell you this because by the time you wanna get it repaired it is usually too late and have already cause damage to your clutch pack and internal parts, thats the main reason why a shop wont mess with just replacing your shift solenoid (aka valve bodie)

You mean shift solenoids. Well if they were replaced was any other work done prior to the problem. Was the pan clean? What kind of mileage? How was the condition of the oil? Any service engine or check engine light on? Codes? Let me know?

2002 Trailblazer Acts like cat. converter is clogged, but only when in gear.

It may be worth your while to have an exhaust back-pressure test done to make sure your converter isn't plugged. When the vehicle is in neutral, there is very little load on the engine, so a blocked exhaust may not be as apparent as it would be in gear.

Gear shift cable 2005 chevrolet cavalier

Had the same problem. to shift gear manually with your hands. Look under the brake fluid (about a foot down) and there is a flat piece of metal. On the end of it on the bottom is a little rod with a round end. That is where the shift cable connects. pushing it toward the driver side of the car will put it in park. And if you count the number of clicks from park you can change gears. For example: 1 click from park is Reverse, 2 clicks is Neutral, 3 clicks is Drive. That is if it is all the way towards the driver side. Don't force it. when it stops clicking dont push it anymore. Hope this helps.

Well, I have a 1994 Toyota Camry XLE V6. I bought it from someone almost two years ago, knowing that it did not have reverse. When we bought it we noticed that the transmission fluid was very low to none...

if the gears were "melted together" then the trans wouldn't shift at all. since the car runs fine sometimes and sometimes it doesn't it sounds like an electronic problem. the trans uses shift solenoids to acheive gear changes. is the fluid dark brown in color or smell burnt? if so you may have some slipping of the clutch discs/ bands, but it doesn't sound severe if the car runs fine at times. i suggest you have a trans shop to drive the car and get a more accurate diagnosis.

Nedd to see the manaul transmission gear shift

"The shift pattern is a little different, with reverse starting to the left of first, in the German (Getrag in this case) pattern rather than the "reverse-in-sixth" Japanese pattern. It's nearly always easy to find the right gear, though sometimes reverse can be tricky (presumably this gets easier with time)." moz-screenshot.png from a review I found , hope it helps. I suspect reverse is up and to the far left R 1 3
