Hi Jack , little pun. the radio should come on no matter what. Take the radio ( no coax ) plug it into the wall ,now see if it comes on. Look in the back to see if its on AC or DC. Which ever way it is turn it the other way. If the radio doesn't come on you should open the radio and look to where the power cord come in for DC. there is a diode there called a reverse polarity diode. It is probably a 1n4003 but check it anyway to see if its burnt. If it is replace it and the radio should come on . Also check the fuse .

Cb radio wiring diagrams

This light is not a field-replaceable item. It is wired-in, so you will need a small, low-wattage soldering iron and some solder-wick plus a little know-how to remove the dead lamp. Next you will need a replacement lamp. That's a fairly old CB radio, from the late 1970s, so you may have trouble finding the correct light bulb. I'd recommend taking the old one with you & go so somewhere like Radio Shack to see if they have something similar with wire leads on it. Otherwise Google for it. Good luck

How to Build: Antenna Tuners

Get you a metal box about 4 inches X 4 inches. Use 2 female Cb antenna inputs from old Cb radios or Radio Shack. Get a old Am radio tuner out of a AM radio(530-1700 khz.) Buy or scrap up some copper wire; big gauge I used. Wound 8-10 turns about " 1 inch round close tight wound. Solder to AM tuner- C1 it shall say on top of Am tuner. Solder Center of Am tuner to Ground(Metal box). For those who know electronics the Tuner is 0-365pf Am band 530-1700khz types. OK, back to assembly. drill a hole for the Two Female Cb Inputs on both sides of metal box. Attach copper wire inside to center taps of Inputs on both sides. Drill a hole for Am tuner and Screw on its lock nut and place a knob on it. Solder all grounds of Female Antenna inputs and Tuner Ground and all Grounds to metal box. Use a washer and Bolt to lock down Grounds to Box. This is how it operates after you use a Jumper to hook to TX of Cb radio. Antenna to other side. Its just a simple L/C network. The Tx travels through copper wire(coil) inside box and gets shunted to ground by the right level of PF Capacitance. The operator tunes it in to get a close to 1.1 to 1.5 SWR ratio. Its simple, but helps with bad Antennas.

My midland 1001z has power to it but all it does is give a humming sound! The mic. will key up and the tx light comes on but when I release the mic. the humming sound gets louder,is the unit screwed? thks...

If you are using a power supply. Get you a better power supply(full filtered) RADIO SHACK has many 12 volt 3 amp models. Run power wires away from radio about 10 feet away to eliminate hum. AM does hum when its near power lines, household appliances. Keep it away from TV's etc. Turn off TV then listen to it. Make sure you have good outdoor antenna like Antron A99 18ft. Fiberglass on Tv pole or Tower. If its inside car --its the engine. you need a Radio Shack Power filter. A coil of wire wrapped around a core and big capacitor on the (+) side shunted to ground by a 470uf Capacitor. Turn off engine then listen.

How do i turn my light on the front panel of my cobra 29? i HAVE TURNED THE DIMMER KNOB AND EVERYTHING HELP

Hi, my name is John. Welcome to FixYa. The light should come on when you turn the unit on, if not, then replace the light. Take the cover off, then locate the light, it is held in place by a small rubber drumming, lift it out, and desolder the wire,s or you can cut them and tie back into them and solder and tape the cut,s up. Get the parts at Radio Shack or your locale CB Shack or Electronics store. Good luck and thanks for choosing FixYa....John

Screwed the mounting screws to tight broke the gronud in side how do i fix

Hi, my name is John. Take the cover off the radio. You will need a soldering iron and solder. You can purchase at Radio Shack. Plug the solder iron in and let it get hot enough to melt the solder. Solder where you broke the ground, also check around the circuit to see that no more damage was done. replace the cover, remount using shorter screws, enjoy. Hope this was helpful..Rate this solution on the four thumbs-up. Good luck.....John

Where can i get a replacement antenna for my ge portable super radio? also, how about info on installation.bthanks,norm.

Radio shack has replacment attennas. There is a scew in the back of the radio below the attenna. Loosen it. the lower part of this and the attenna will come out. at the top of the base part is a screw where the attenna bends back and forth. remove this screw and take off the top of the attenna (the telescoping part of the attena) get a replacment attenna thiis length (of top part). The bottom of new attena will have a screw toward the base where it bends back and forth. Take this screw out and replace the new attenna base with the old attenna base (the new attenna base won't fit in the radio correctly) Now insert the fixed attenna back in t he super radio and tighten the screw on back of radio. Hope this helps.

I have a midland 1001z cb radio with a magnetic mount attenna by cobra. When I transmit receivers are getting a lot of squealing. Before I bought the midland i had a radio shack cb which worked find.

is this same antenna as before. you should always check the SWR's to see if set correctly.. other than that. bad grounds, bad microphone can make any radio squeal..
