Why is (channel) scan option greyed out?

Often this happens when the input on the TV is not set to TV. Look for a Source or Input button on the TV or the remote. (If you are using a universal remote, you may need a different code to get this feature to work. Cheap universal remotes may not match the feature at all.) If there isn't a Source or Input button, you can check if there is a Menu item to change sources. On my TV, you press the Input button several times until TV is highlighted. Then press OK or simply wait and the TV will go to the new source.

Since this depends on the TV, please post a comment with the make and model of your TV for additional help.

I hope this gets you started.

Remote problems

what exactly do you mean by "tried to fix it"? I think that would help us find a solution - nothing you do with a remote for either unit should stop you getting a signal. I suspect all that has happened is that your TV is not on the channel that recieves the cable output, first thing to try is turning both units off by unplugging them from the power supply and leaving them for a couple of minutes, then turn the TV on first, then the cable box - hopefully it will auto select the right channel. If not then you need to pull up the on screen menu to select the input source (should work from the menu button on the TV remote even if you have no input from the cable box) - check the troubleshooting on this link for a more detailed description; http://www.olevia.com/support/troubleshooting_steps.aspx Hopefully this solves the problem, if not then here is the link for the user manual, which has much more detailed troubleshooting; http://olevia.fileburst.com/manuals/323_English_User_Manual.pdf If you need any help with the steps in that then please ask again. If you get no luck still then I would be tempted to suspect either a fault in the cable box itself, or the cable connecting it to the TV or the network. Doesn't sound like this is the problem from what you have described so far - give us more detail please and we can investigate more. Hope this helps :)

How best connect external DVD to TV: Composite or Component? Both available on both units

If the TV does have a component input, that will be your best choice. Component video provides an HD signal; composite is only an SD (480i) signal. However, if the TV doesn't have 3 RCA ports (red, green and blue) for the video itself, in addition to the red/white RCA audio ports, you may be missing an adapter that allows the port to be used properly. You'll need to set the TV to the external video input with a Source or Input button on the TV or the remote. If you press the DVD button on the remote, the TV will only attempt to get the signal from the internal DVD.

Please add a comment with the make and model of your TV for additional information. A number of TVs (like some LG models) share the composite and component inputs and use an adapter to reduce the input to a smaller area on the TV. Without the adapter, the TV can't correctly identify the signal. The component video adapter for my LG TV looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/LG-OEM-Original-Part-EAD61273107/dp/B00C5HXILE . There's a second one for the audio signal.)

I hope this helps.

Need help to get coby tv to work

The basics here: with the original remote enter the menu and look for setup or auto program, select either CABLE OR AIR (WHICHEVER IS YOUR SIGNAL SOURCE) and run the auto program.

You should also be able to direct enter channels like 06 enter to manually go to a channel.

Lastly if you can hook the signal via a box to the rear inputs you can bypass the tuner in the set and see if it works that way.

I have comcast remote and granddaughter turned tv on side panel. Now screen is fuzzy and I can't find remote that came with tv. I get picture back?

Hello Mary and thank you for choosing FixYa today for your online technical support needs.

When you say the TV is FUZZY, do you mean that there is no picture there at all?

It is possible that your grandaughter may have changed the VIDEO INPUT MODE SELECTOR on the TV by accident when she tried to turn it on with the controls on the TV itself.

Most TVs have a button right on the front of the set itself labelled INPUT which allows you to switch between the various input modes. That button should be located right beside the POWER, CHANNEL, and VOLUME buttons on the TV's front panel.

You may simply need to press the INPUT button and select the proper INPUT SOURCE for your Comcast cable box.

The proper INPUT MODE for your particular setup will depend on how your Comcast cable box is connected to your TV. If your cable box is plugged into your TV with an HDMI cable, then make sure your TV INPUT MODE is set to HDMI.

I hope this helps out, and please feel free to comment back to this page with any additional questions or concerns and I will respond back.

If you do need additional help, please be sure to include the exact model number of your TV and of your Comcast cable box as well as how the two are connected.

Good luck and take care.

Joe.

Use the "Signal select" button to set the receiver to use a digital input, and the Dolby/DTS button (above "Signal select") to enable decoding.
