How do I disassemble a Dell 948 printer?

The white cover will not release at the back. Are there screws in the blind holes?

Ron Worth,
Dell does not have any disassemble instructions for the printer. You can click the link below for viewing the online manual.

SOURCE: Dell All-In-One 948 InkJet Printer

This might not be the issue but I had a similar problem when I first got the printer. Open the top-( where the ink is loaded), look at the back on the right there is a small bus cable ( flat wire usually white) make sure it is pulled in all the way into the top. Be carefull as the prongs can break. This took care of my clicking clacking when the machine came on.
Good luck

SOURCE: Dell 948 printer- won't print in black and white

I had this problem. It's actually very easy to fix:

- Click Print -> Properties
- Go to "Advanced" tab
- "More options"
- Deselect "Use color cartridge for all black printing"
- Select "Use black cartridge to print black and white"
- Click "Ok"

You should be able to select the "Print in black and white" option now and stop all the frustration!

SOURCE: refilling a dell 948 color ink cart #11

Alright, I gave in and busted open my Series 11 KX703 color cartridge to figure out how to refill it. As Inksaver pointed out there are six columns which ultimately lead into three ink wells the bottom two (next to the cartridge head) are magenta, the upper right two are yellow and upper left two are cyan. Each well has one sponge in it that soaks up the ink. Each of the six columns has a hole predrilled in the center of it just below the top layer of plastic (about 5/16" from the left and right edge and 1/4" from the top and bottom and 1 3/16" (midway) from the top and bottom for the center two holes).

When I do it again (with a new cartridge since this one is busted), I'd drill three holes, one lower right and the two center holes, push the metal syringe down into the foam about midway and inject each of the foams with new blood. If someone else tries let me know how it goes. Hope this helps.

Printer message cover open

There is no replacement part available from Dell. Temporary fix is removing the hinge spring under the small concave white plastic piece (you can remove that also) allows the cover to close. The nub under the cover has to press a "lid closed" switch which is not possible if the lid hinge is broken.

My Dell 948 printer produces a thick black line on documents

Leave the cover up and run a 'copy.' Look closely at the fluorescent scanner light and note if it seems equally bright from end to end.
If it does, the photo-assembly that acts as an image receiver is probably sick.
If it is, with the labor cost and potential non-availability of parts, you might be better off replacing it unless still under warranty.

How to remove glass on dell 948

You have to lift the document feeder up and out of the slots in back.
I would also recommend removing the screws from the back cover and taking it off. Then take the two front screws off on the top holding both the ledt and right top covers. Remove those covers, and also remove the one screw holding on the plastic strip along the back of the glass.
Then remove the glass. Be careful cleaning the scan head. That lamp is very fragile.

Dell 948 printer. Black(2 inch) Vertical lines when I print

You need to check the glass for any white-out or other smears that don't belong, if the glass is clean then the scan assembly has elements that are burned out which will cause dark streaks.

Remove the top before refilling.
Otherwise you risk that the colors get mixed.
That happened to me when using holes drilled from the top.
