I don't think it will make any difference for your amplifier when you use 8 Ohm in stead of 6 Ohm. These impedance is measured on one frequency and will differ all over the audio spectrum. It could be a problem, if you try to connect 1 or 2 Ohm speakers, because they could ask a to much of a current. but don't be afraid to put these to your amp.

I use to have some warfdales that did that, and generally it was the cross over unit that would blow a fuse, if fitted.

I have this mission 782 for many years! It happen

It's bi-wireable (BUY-wire). Did it occur to you that may be a factor if you're using it that way? The jumpers (or lack thereof) on the back allow or disallow the amp(s) to affect all the drivers. You can tie any amp to one or the other pair of binding posts to test them.

I have a pair of Mission M50's and am considering mounting them on the wall. However, it says something in the manual that they shouldn't be too close to the wall and there is no obvious way of...

The reason they shouldn't be too close to the wall is because the refelction that would generate, making them respond unpredictable, mostly in the lower frequency response, Booming basses are most likely. That won't danmage your speakers, so if you don't mind, you can always attach them to a wall with after-merket mounts. You'll have to screw those in the back of your speaker though...

Only bass driver working on the pair. tweeter and mid range cones not working.

hi,
check the tweeter and mid range. its coil may become faulty.
for checking the speakers carefully remove the speakers one by one, remove its connections.
and check the speakers with a AAA cell. is it producing cracking sound. if not the speakers coils are burned.

Mission 780s (from early 1990s) tweeter gone?

Hi there.
Do you have the make and number on the back of the magnet?
Check if the tweeter is at all available on the net!
To have it repaired is also an option.

Yup, Thats about the shape of it - use a nice think solid core copper mains cable. That's waht was fitted to my recently retired 764's when I bought them new many moons ago.

Mission speakers...i think i've blown one of them...

I'm guessing you mean one of the bass drivers (as standmount or floorstanding speakers don't have subs as such). Place your hand lightly against the driver when playing some music at normal volume, there should be some vibration (this increases the louder you play). If there's no vibration, you're probably right.

Contact Mission, who can send you a new driver, contact a Mission dealer to see how much it'll cost to go through the dealer network. I'd recommend going down the latter route if you are unsure of what to do yourself.

Just noticed you posted this in March, in which case, I hope you got it fixed (or are enjoying your new pair instead!).
