Check the remote control for its infra-red emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check by pressing all the buttons on it; and see whether all of it generates infrared signal while pressing. If it is found OK, check and replace the infrared sensor inside the TV. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. The following should solve your problem if you have a comcast digital cable box and possibly for others.
Hey, it's worth a shot!
Turn the TV Power on and cable box power off.
Press the MENU button on the front of the cable box.
Scroll down to the caption item on the menu and toggle it to "disabled"
Press the menu button again to close.
Hope this helps!

Go into the setup menu and turn off closed captioning there, or just restore the factory presets. I believe this model has a menu button on the front of the tv.
You didn't ask for it, but here's a link to the user manual, in case you need it.

You might try a Magnavox brand universal remote. Get one with a "menu" button. Often they give nearly complete control on a Magnavox brand TV. Otherwise, the only real solution is to purchase the exact original remote. There are many vendors on the Internet selling replacements, but often the costs are ridiculous.
Not all TV programs and product
commercials are made with
Closed Caption (CC) information
included. Neither are all Closed
Caption modes (CC1, or CC2) necessarily
being used during the transmission
of a closed caption program.
Refer to your area's TV program listings
for the stations and times of
Closed Caption shows.
To close the close caption display from screen; press "CC" button on the remote control.
