Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My washer keeps "eating" my clothes, we have frequent errors and have to open up the bottom of the washer to retrieve chewed up socks from the trap. And other times I retrieve our clothes and they've been cinched and shredded in certain parts. This is so frustrating.

SOURCE: Elastic eating front load washer

Check the inside drum vanes. Sometimes the vanes may crack and grab certain items.Next check the front of the drum and tub for any loose items like wires from bras or curtains sometimes these may get stuck in the drum or vane and cause this problem. Also check your soap make sure there is not alot of suds this is my number one problem with these machines.H.E. soap is best but watch liquid tide it's been sudsing alot.

Metal inside washer drum may be faulty and causing tearing of clothes (run your finger around the inside when empty and you will feel where it snags). Had same problem, only got worse and ruined many expensive t-shirts! Replacement of drum is required and is extremely costly if not under warranty!

SOURCE: Kenmore eats socks - now they are moldy

Hello seesoc,

You can try to get them out yourself but not to sure, depends on where they are at. Small clothing items (like socks) usually get stuck in the rubber gasket. If you have not already check the rubber gasket really good and see if you find them. If they have gotten past that point probably not something you want to do yourself. They would be inbetween the inner and outer stainless steel drum. If you cant find them take care if you start the wash and leave, there have been a lot of reports of the socks working thier way over and blocking the water intake hose from the soap dispenser causing all the water to come out the front and on the floor. If you can find them and get them out the best fix is to get a large garment bag to keep all the small items together and from wandering off during the wash. Hope this helps and I hope they are just in the gasket and not inbetween the drums.

SOURCE: My Whrilpool Duet keeps

That is a common problem with the Whirpool duets. Small clothing articles, especially baby socks go through the drum lip to the drain pipe.

Best to buy a zip-up laundry bag and place all the small clothing items in there.

SOURCE: Bosch clothes washer model WFK 2401 with error

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description it sounds like a faulty door lock mechanism. As you may or may not already know the 06 error code for the WFK2401 Bosch washer indicates an error in the lock has been detected.

This is from the Bosch service tips I have, so you should be able to check it with this info...

I also have this available to you in "pdf" and I can send you if you want to provide an email address since the "pdf" cannot be attached or sent via these post's.

You can also run a self diagnostic/test program by following these steps I've laid out, then let me know what you find...I suspect a faulty lock as I alluded to though.

To enter test program for WFK 2401 washers:

1) Set cycle knob to any "X" (reset) position

2) Press and hold Pre-Wash and Start buttons at the same time. While still holding Pre-Wash and Start buttons, turn unit on by pressing On/Off button.

3) Keep holding Pre-Wash and Start buttons (only) until digital display comes on (~ 5 seconds).

**HINT: Turning washer off at any time will end test program**

When test program has been entered:

Start light will flash

Digital display will show 00 for no faults or will show fault codes below:

Let me know what you find as I said or if you require further assistance. Thanks for choosing FixYa for your repair inquiry and good luck

please rate the solution I provided accordingly.

Is there a fix for the washer it's chewing my towels

This washer is known to eat some clothes.
I found a great big silk pillow case between tubs once:

Most of the damage is done in the beginning of the cycle directly after the brain has re-destributed the clothes. Any items of clothing with strings need not be washed in this machine or the strings will get into the pump:

I wrote an article for FY on these:

My front loader washer had a sock inside the hose and the water backed up , and water was everywhere. is this common

It happens with many brands. Coins are commonly found in the pump traps in most washers. I don't know if LG washers are more prone to eating socks, but if you try Google with 'lg washer sock', you will see that you are definitely not alone.

I hope it doesn't happen again.

Good luck from Detroit, MI, USA.

Mildew odour from Whirlpool Duet washer.

I've had this problem a couple of times over the years I've had this washer. What caused the odour in my machine was one (or more) of my kids' socks getting stuck in the machine. With the door open, gently reach in and bend the grey rubber door seal back and feel for clothes that have slipped between the drum and the rubber. If there's nothing there and it has been smelling bad for a while, then it's likely that the socks have been sucked into the drain. To clear this without paying a $150 service charge (I did that the first time and watched him fix it in 10 minutes), you'll need to remove the bottom front plate of the washer (there are only three or four Torx -or star head- screws holding it on). Once that plate is off, you'll see a white plastic knob that is the cap of the drain trap. Unscrew the cap and a couple of cups of water will leak out so shove a couple of towels under it beforehand. You should find some long-lost now-rotting socks. The last time I had to do this, I found FOUR socks in there. This also contributes to the 'suds' error message as it prevents proper drainage. I've only had this problem with kids' socks, everything else is too big to get stuck, I guess. Maybe try a laundry bag for the smaller stuff.

Kenmore HE2PLUS washer has a water leakage problem when washing and water just leaks from inside during the cycle. We tried to look for it and could not figure out from where it is dripping heavily. Any...

Thank God for the internet and Google! I came across this, and another thread about the same problems. I "cut and pasted" the solution below:

(another user posted this solution:) "We also had water pour out the dispenser of our 2 year old HE2 washer. Derek's answer helped us realize that a trapped garment was the probable cause. We were actually able to pull the sock out of the intake tube without taking everything apart!
We opened the clothes door and felt around inside the rubber seals to find where the intake tube connects to the drum (upper-left side). We felt a small bit of cloth sticking out of the tube and were able to slowly work it out by pulling back and forth. Once enough of the sock was exposed we used pliers to grasp it more firmly and pull it completely out.
The sock was a write-off (much longer and full of holes) but the washer is working great!!"

Word for word, we had the same exact problem. The machine started spilling water from the dispenser area and making an odd noise. We even pulled out a sock (now much longer and filled with holes!) What a relief to find these threads.

Whirlpool Duet Washer-error code "sud"

Just take off the bottom kickplate (3 screws on the bottom). You'll see the pump front and center. Twist the front face of the pum slowly to the left. All the trapped water will flow right out towards you. There could be a sock or some other debris there. Unclog, screw that faceplate back in and start it up.
