Haveing looked around the web I can only find results for the E2 code for this model.
E2 indicates that the loading motor is locked in the unload direction.
This means that when the tape was in the machine it tried to unload the tape and got stuck. There could be numorous causes for this that would require investigate. Till the fault is cleared the machine will be unoperational.

Sony dvd/video recorder turns on, says L2 then cuts off..what's the problem

Hit the input select on either your remote or behind the flap on the front of the unit. It might be turned off cause nothings plugged in to the L2 channel. I believe you should have an L1, L2 and L3 channel. I'm almost positive L2 is an auxiliary channel and not an error code but u could be wrong

Proper vcr connections to operate on a television

Since the cable is connected to the VCR and from there to the TV. The TV should be tune to channel 3 or 4. Using this connection, the VCR tuner will be changing channels when is ON, if you want to change channels on the TV; the VCR should be on standby.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Unable to operate recorder at all.

When you are turning the recorder on it is blocking the signal for cable going to the TV. Your TV will need to be on channel 3 or 4 depending on what the dvd/vcr player channel output is set to. This is why your tv is asking you to re-scan. It is losing the video signal because the dvd/vcr is taking over. The reason why the vcr with the button on the remote is because the vcr button is changing the function of the buttons on the remote to vcr. Even though the dvd/vcr is one unit they still will act like two seperate components independent of each other. They have seperate power buttons and the dvd player part may need to be hooked up seperately with rca cables to work.

Panasonic PV-9451 VCR, When setting up the VCR to record a channel, the only channel options are Channel 02 thru 25 and L1 And L2. What has to be reset with the digital cable input??

You will need to use L1 or L2 (one is probably on the front of the VCR, and the other on the back, they should be labeled).

YOu need to plug the digital receiver's output into L1, or L2, and set the VCR to record the one you're using. Then set it to the time you want, and then set the channel on the digital box tho the one you want.

One Channel, One time. (or recurring daily, if your VCR allows daily recording from L1,2)

Channel selection

L1 and L2 are just line inputs. This unit does not have a tuner so there are no channels to select.
It requires you to be connected to a TV broadcast via a cable or satellite tuner box... and then would only record what ever channel you were viewing. The DVD is a player only.
It sounds like you should have purchased a DVD Recorder or a DVD/VCR Recorder. The players normally do not have a tuner. A Recorder should have an built-in digital tuner. Some also have the old NTSC tuner and may also have a QAM tuner.

Recording from cable

L1 and L2 are different inputs on the VCR.If you have red, white and yellow input on the front of the VCR then when you put the VCR on L1 it should pick up a signal from the front. To get more channels on your vcr you want to do an autoprogram make sure the cable from the wall is plugged into the input in the back and go to the menu on the VCR and look for channel search or auto program and start the search.usually you can find this setting under something like SETUP, Programming, settings on the main menu of the VCR.You may have to search in the menu of the vcr for a little bit until you find it.Youll know when you got it when the channels automatically start scanning from 1-98.GOOD LUCK and rate me if this fixesya or is helpful.

No sound when recording channel 3

Is this when you are recording via CH 3 from a separate source? If so, try CH 4 or alternately, L1, L2 inputs.
