Let them sit in Vinegar overnight, longer if necessary. Once they look good, you need to put them in a baking soda solution.

Testimonial: "Thank you for the fast answer, I'll try it. Once they're out of the baking soda, do I have to put them into the powder itself, or shall I mix water with the baking soda? If yes, how much? I did some research, some people use a small "something" and an electrolysis rips off the dirt, but there must be some other way..."

I use Viegar to clean my rusted auto parts, and it works amazingly well. I would say the banking soda solution would be about 1 part soda, to 4 parts water, and once again, just let it sit emersed again, overnight. You'll be amaized; I know I was.

How to properly clean old coins

If they are dirty and you just want cleaned, use dish soap and hot water.
If the coin is antique or has value because it's old. Don't do anything.
You put any scratches on it while you clean, the value goes down BIG TIME!

Tip

Dig out your own treasure

Some people wrongly consider "treasure hunting" with the use of a metal detector, as a potential source of enrichment. However, as almost all metal detector treasure hunters will testify, this activity is almost completely of an entertaining nature and rarely brings any real valuables.

All metal detectors can be set to detect different levels of signals coming from the metals, buried underground. According to its settings, the metal detector finds bigger or smaller objects, of different metals, buried deeper or more superficially. What most people aim for is gold. Lost rings or chains, old gold coins etc.

Coins are the most common "treasures" found with metal detectors.
They can be found more or less easily both on beaches or buried in fields. In the latter case, it's easier to find older coins rather than modern ones; witnesses of history, lost in more or less ancient times. Many metal detector hobbyists like collecting them as historical tokens, engraved with images and scriptures from the past.

On the other hand, beaches are abundant with modern coins that people lose, for example, when dropping the wallet in the sand, or when shaking the towel, forgetting they had been hiding money or jewelery in it.

Rings are also often lost in the water and washed ashore by the waves.
Therefore, the two places on the beach that may prove the most fruitful, are the round-shaped areas where the waves touch, especially at their tip, and the farthest outskirts of the beach, where people usually set their towels and belongings, and where they are likely to shake off their towel, dropping "treasures".

Good luck!

How do i set my green youth metal detector to only to coins

u cant set these for only COINS but u can use the u can exclude unwanted or limit these with the anolog controller settings.. it can be good and bad though..if u set it to discriminate to high..u will then take the chance of excluding smaller items.. to low and u then get cross signal issues and dig up lots of junk.. best to learn the way it behaves with diff kinds of metals and at diff depts so u dont miss out on that one chance to hit it big..

When out hunting with a metal detector, you could come across more junk than treasure. You may detect and dig up rusty nails and bottle caps in the hope of finding coins or other valuables. To resolve this issue, most detectors are equipped with a discriminator. Setting the discrimination level allows you to distinguish between good and bad tones when hunting for specific metallic objects. One of the most effective ways to use your discriminator is with a technique known as reverse discrimination.

Can you buy one metal detector that does all different types of detecting?

In most cases, one metal detector will do it all except for specialized situations. So nugget detectors and underwater ones wont be good for more geneal detecting.

What is coin shooting/ coin detecting?

Coin shooting or coin detecting is when you hunt just for coins only. Some people hunt for any coins in general and the more specialized metal detectors' look for specific types of coins.

There are features on metal detectors that allow you to discriminate your targets. Or you can learn to rely on discrimination patterns to identify targets.

What is beach combing?

Beach combing is basically metal detecting on the beach. Most metal detectors on the beach are looking for jewelry and coins and in the busy summer seasons, probably can find quite a bit. This is the most popular kind of metal detecting.
