Check with an other known disc; have recording in aspect ration 4:3. If that disc show full screen picture, the recording to the present one; you're viewing has wide screen recording. Electro help

You might have an other DVD disc, which has full screen recording of any; cenema or other video. Play that disc ; and see whether the TV displays it in full screen. That's what i meant.

SOURCE: Why does my RCA TV cycle through channels on its own?

this is the same type of problem happening with other rca models and I know it is the EPROM CHIP but why this is failing is either because of design flaw , dirty enviroment that they were made in , to much voltage or current to the chip or too much of a draw from the chip causing it to fail . Or even a random frequency from the IR sensor or its circut I'm still investigating and testing.
leave the tv unplugged for at least 3 weeks durring this time resolder any solder that don't look good , I did this and it lasted for about 6 months(always plugged in to the wall) before it started doing it again. model # 27v412t

When viewing HD programs the picture size is larger than the screen. In other words the picture is cut off top/bottom/sides. Can this be corrected? Ratio does not help.

Are you using AT&T U-verse? You should check the zoom by clicking on the zoom button at the bottom right of your remote. If you are using another service provider for your television service, you should also check the zoom.

Just called Sony about this same problem...taking your CABLE BOX remote, push the # key on the bottom right of the remote (it also says HD Zoom on mine). You can cycle through 4 or 5 zoom options...make sure you are on an HD channel to see the changes. :)

Heads cut off on the screen

Ocean's Eleven. Best remake movie, I think.
I believe your TV is in "ZOOM" mode for the screen. This will make a 4x3 picture come up closer to fill in the 16x9 screen, but this cuts off the top and the bottom.
Keep pressing the WIDE button on your remote until the picture looks best.
If you have HD channels, the screen mode should be on NORMAL. HD channels will have the 16x9 screen format.

The non-HD channels will have 4x3 screen format. When the screen mode is on NORMAL, you will have the cut off picture on the sides because the 4x3 format will not fill in a 16x9 screen.

Picture format to large

There should be a format button on your remote to change between widescreen & fullscreen as well as the zooms. May say format or aspect. If not on remote look through your menus. Make sure which ever u select u do not choose a zoom. This will cut of top & bottom of picture

The TV is set on zoom. Just go to the remote control and look for the button (not sure what is is on olivea usually zoom, P. size, wide, stretch or something similar though). just press the button until you cycle through to normal (on an analog signal it will have black bars on both sides).

On your remote control you should see a zoom or picture size button. Try changing this back to 16:9. I expect that your screen got zoomed either on purpose or by accident by someone. Some people zoom in the picture to eliminate the aspect ratio areas at the top and bottom and/or sides.

This should be your problem, just un-zoom the picture

Picture too large

Normallly, if the picture size button on the remote for the television does not achieve the desired affect, then, a cable box or a satelite box is where the change needs to be made.
For example:
Some Motorola Cable receivers need to be set up in the menu to go to a wide screen or zoom mode when an analog signal is detected. There may be a format button on the remote.
Some Dish Network boxes have Size buttons on their remotes and also in their main menu.
It's difficult to determine the repair without knowing the types of the peripherals.
Hope this helps.
