Hi,
This generally means you have "logical" damage on the drive, somewhat akin to loosing the index pages of an encyclopedia. As a rule, the info is all still on the drive but there's no easy way to access it.
In most cases you will require a pro who can scan the drive and relocate all the files for you.
Comment back with your location(country, state, city) and I will point you in the appropriate direction.
