Question about Lionel Polar Express Train Set - G-Gauge
Polar express g gauge will not run. Replaced batteries, cleaned wheels on engine, but still no go. Sometimes doesn't pull at all, even with just the coal tender (no passenger cars). Sometimes goes a few feet around the track before shutting down. Any ideas?
Sounds like a track connection not completely together. Put a meter on various points on the track to find where it is not completing the circuit.

Testimonial: "Hi Jerry, thanks for the response, but this particular train is battery operated. The tracks aren't wired. The coal tender holds 6 c batteries and then plugs into the engine unit to power the engine. I did some tinkering and figured the batteries might be fitting too loose. So I inserted a couple pennies to firm up the connections. Also taped the plug to the engine firmly with electrical tape. Not as much power as it used to have, but is now working a lot better."
