You'll need a filter capacitor in the power line to the radio. wiring varies according the the individual unit, but typically one side to power, the other to ground.

Try new batteries. If it still happens, clean the battery contacts with sandpaper and try again. This occurs when there is no enough power to transmit from your power source, which are batteries! Let us know!

What size supply fuse

I = P/E Current = power/voltage
Therefore 25 watts of power divided by 12 volts if that is the battery voltage, equals about 2 amps. You should try a 3 or 4 amp fuse..

I have a Cobra Mr HH325 hand held Marine radio. Everything works fine except recently I can't transmit more than a hundred yards. What can I look for to check what is wrong?

the way the airwaves have been lately , although it shouldn't have any effect on marine radios ,you should be glad to get out even a mile or two. Either the air waves are dead of there is so much skip.

Cobra mr f55-d engine noise

Most of the problems associated to "whine" sound on radios can be eliminated by installing a noise filter(capacitor) in the feed line. This product is readily available at electronic supply stores and I not very expensive. It usually comes with installation instructions. Make sure it can handle the amperage.
Hope this helps.

Do i need ariel for cobra MR F55 EU radio

? I assume you are asking if you need an ariel antenna for this radio in order to receive and transmit? if that is the case then yes you do, Any radio requires a matched antenna in order to transmit, if you were to transmit without an antenna, most of the RF energy will transfer back into the radio and over heat "burn out" the output transistors. always make sure to have a proper antenna connected before transmitting on any radio.

Need a service manual need to modify a MR f55 radio to transmit on 161.600 mhz can you help?

Hello,
You want to be able to transmit to the Coast Station on this frequency I assume. The Coast Guard monitors channel 16 at all times. This would be the primary channel in the United States. Your radio is VHF Marine Radio and has a built in frequency range of 156.050 MHz to 163.275 MHz. There is no need for a modification. This is a duplex frequency. What that means is you will transmit on one frequency and receive on another, while on channel 20. You will not need to transmit on 161.600. Turn your radio to channel 20. When you transmit, you will transmit on 157.000. And when the Port responds to you your radio will automatically receive their signal on 161.600. So if you are trying to figure out how to communicate with the port authorities then for that frequency turn your radio to channel 20 and you will be able to communicate with them.

Regards, Tony

Before changing out the radio try the radio on a ANTENNA RADIO TESTER or try it on a different antenna. Good luck.

Transmits but does not Receive

Check your microphone by swapping with another duplicate. If no differance, you will need a SWR meter (standing wave ratio) to find the culprit. It attaches in line of the coax and determinds power out and reflected power. The reading should be 25 watts foward and max of 1 reflected.
