Sounds more like a bad solder connection. finding it will take careful examination of wiring and control boards. check the power connections and power switch connections first.

I agree basically with jabberwoky, except it could also be a bad cord. Have someone hold it and turn it on (be careful!) while you move the cord around slowly. If it IS broken, it could be on the tool end or on the plug end. Both are quite common.

How do you remove the blades on a Sears 6HP Lawn-Garden Shredder Bagger, Model #242-28566?

Remove the 5/16" allen cap screw on the end of the shaft. The knife assembly slides onto the crankshaft and is keyed with a woodruff key. Soak the shaft in pentrating oil overnight and try to slide it off or use more persuasive measures like tapping or a slide hammer. You'll see a big nut it's a LH thread so to remove it turn it CCW. The rest is straight forward. I can send you the owners manual if you provide an email address. It illustrates the process in detail. Ronald

I have a sears craftsman riding lawnmower 5 years old. It will steer only hard to the left and will not turn to the right. the steering wheel turns but the mower does not. any suggestions

I had the same problem with my 15 year old Craftsman lawn tractor. I tried to adjust the steering travel but it gave me marginal relief for a year until the steering failed with my steering wheel spinning freely and the wheels free to go left and right. The left bias for steering indicates that the steering shaft pinion weld was shearing prior to failure.

I took the steering apart and found that the drive pinion gear was sheared off the end of the steering shaft at the weld. I replaced the shaft and sector gear to fix this issue.

This fix requires good amount of mechanical disassembly to get the replacement parts in place so you might need to go to a shop to get a mechanic to fix this if you aren't set up for this kind of fix by disconnecting the mower deck and jacking up the front end to access the steering gear assembly and steering arm links.

I installed a sprocket and gear assembly kit to the garage door opener. It runs forward and then quickly runs backwards. Tried to adjust sensors and the motor does the same thing. Goes forward for a bit...

Make sure you put the black cup back on the end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on. Make sure the RPM sensor is plugged in. If neither of these are the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.

Cannot remove starter housing assembly on Sears Blower Vac

Take cover off were the belts are located. turn power button to off! see if the shaft can turn with a wrench. That should turn 180 degrees. If stuck you may need to forch it. Then try to pull cord.
Good luck
