Testimonial: "Thank you for your reply. I am using someone else's computer, and they have an external USB 6 plug outlet. I had plugged into that, and it did NOT recognize my external hard drive. However, Deccaz below gave me the idea to plug straight into the tower's USB port, and it recognized my hp SimpleSave. So, I was able to access my files. Thank you all! :)"
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Hello, Did you try to use this drive on another computer? Did you have the same problem? Did you try using a different cable? I would try these things first in order to determine if the problem is with the drive or with the computer. Good Luck! Dr. Know

I got one with the same problem. I opened up the case and hooked up the hard drive to a generic usb to sata adapter that i picked up on ebay and it works fine now if a bit clunky looking.

Download TestDisk program. You can get a free copy from www.download.cnet.com. TestDisk is a powerful data recovery utility. It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally erasing your Partition Table). My hard drive became unusable a couple of times after I unplugged it without ejecting it first. Testdisk fixed my hdd and restore all my lost files.
