SOURCE: no surround sound

So your saying that you have no rear channel. Some recivers use a single stereo output ic for both sides on the rear speakers. you could have a defect with this IC . Anther thing Im sure you check3ed the obvious ie : the switch is on suround sound? If there is a front to rear fader is it in the middle? Good Luck

SOURCE: Subwoofer ... it is hooked up, but no sound

I found a manual online, and learned that there is a speaker set-up procedure on this Onkyo model ... so when it got to the subwoofer set-up, I simply went from "subwoofer off" to "subwoofer on"

SOURCE: Subwoofer shutdown

I'm having the same issue as you guys: Sub rumbles in test mode, doesn't produce sound otherwise. Which makes me suspect it's the receiver itself -- the filter (or whatever it is) that should be separating the bass signal and sending it to the sub is not working. At least that's my guess.

Either way... this sucks.

Cant get any sound from the speakers new samsung 4k tv with optical chord hooked up

The Samsung does not have an optical audio IN to the TV. It only has an optical audio OUT. Meaning the audio would leave the TV to a receiver or sound bar instead of the TV speakers. Optical audio is for surround sound systems. I hope this helps.

Hooked up HW-D450 sound bar to Samsung UN40D6000SF TV with low output from sub woofer

Have you adjusted the subwoofer level? there should be buttons on the remote to adjust this level. Also, make sure you are not in a 'night' surround mode - this drops subwoofer levels a lot

Cannot get power to sub woofer...

Maybe you could name the subwoofer model so we know what it needs for input.

And we need to be careful with the indiscriminate use of the word 'power' in audio discussions. There's wall power and there's amplifier (audio) power.

In the case of subwoofers, some are self-powered (AC power cord plugged into the wall and an amplifier built-in; usually receives subwoofer-specific audio program via RCA cables from YOUR source); others are passive (just get audio power from YOUR amplifier.

Back surround speakers dont work.

If the display reads 2 chan then that means stereo, and the sound mode is not in any type of surround processing. For your surround speakers to operate you must select a surround sound mode.

How to switch on Sub?

surround and subwoofer may not work if there is an additional graphic equaliser operating.
1. check in your receiver speaker setting ensure your speaker setup doesn not have subwoofer set to NONE. this will block any signal to your subwoofer socket.
2 when you select your surround sound setting setup, ensure you select the speaker mode you want, if there is a multicontrol knob, cycle through the choices
select subwoofer mode and set it to yes.
if you have set-up small speakers S in your speaker settings then it could be that subwoofer is set to yes automatically if you have large speakers L, subwoofer has to be set additionally in the subwoofer setting.
3 test subwoofer on alternative device to test it is working ok
consult manual on enjoying surround sound and adjusting the speaker settings.
