Question about Olympus Stylus 5010 µ 5010 Digital Camera
I have damaged the LCd viewing screen, i can now see some black lines in it. How do I take it apart to replace LCD screen and is there anything that I need to be careful of? Also is there a repair manual available for this camera [preferably free]? Thank you.
No need for a repair manual, if you have patients you can replace the screen all by your self? Screen for this camera sells for about 19.00 to 25.00 dollars on Ebay, brand new.
Unfortunately you do have to take the camera apart to get to the broken screen and that takes patients by removing all the tiny screws around the camera. Once you remove the screws you still have to pry open the rear panel carefully, careful not to apply to much pressure along the clips/locks holding the rear panel. The rear panel should begin to pop out as you pry the panel all around. Now you have to carefully see how the screen is held down, might have just some metal frame snapped on around the screen or a few tiny screws? Once you see that the screen is loose be careful not to jerk it out just like that, you have to find the RIBBON that is connected to the mother board and carefully pull it out of its socket, then the whole screen should just slide out. Replace it with the new one the same way you removed the old one, careful when assembling it back together and make sure it the rear panel snaps into place before replacing all the screws you removed.

Easy, remove the 9 screws that hold the rear case and pull the case apart,.remember there are 4 screws under the hotshoe base and 4 under the memory door and one under the USB cover. You need to pry and slide the hotshoe base back with a slim screwdriver and youll see 4 screws, remove the rear ones. There will be 2 ribbon cables attached to the rear case, the LCD and the buttons. These pull out carefully with gentle pressure. The LCD can be removed with screws and another ribbon cable connector that needs to be unclipped and then removed. replace LCD, Put it back together and make sure the ribbon cables are fully seated. Good to go.

The problem you are describing is a problem with one of the chips in the camera that controls image processing. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.
Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $87.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

This has happened due to failure of lcd controller or due to a flex cable misalignment. When your camera was dropped, the cable connecting the lcd with the main board might came off and needs to be reconnected back. However, if you want to be sure its the flex cable and not any lense issue, you'll need to connect your camera with the computer and check whether all pictures you clicked after the camera gone bad are fine?
Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.
