SOURCE: USB firmware upgrade for bd-p1500
Do you use a Mac? I had this same trouble. I use a Apple computer, Mac OS X. The USB flash card I was using had been formatted for the MAC OS. I just used the disk utility to reformat the flash card for MS DOS. Then it worked ok.

go to the samsung website, and navigate to the BD-1500 page. You will see a support tab, which has your download on it. I would try the CD based download first.
Download the file, unzip it, and burn it onto a CD. Then, with the unit off, and unplugged, plug it in, open the drawer and insert the disk. Close the drawer and see if it will read the new files. If not, then try the same procedure on the USB option, though I have had less luck with that.
If you cannot get it from there, contact Samsung
