Hi
A/V rated hard drives are specifically produced for use in such things as Digital TV recorders, Xboxes, and other equipment requiring the storage of video or audio content. They usually also work with computers as internal or external when suitably connected.

My external HDD is no longer recognised by my PC. The usb port I tried works with other devices so that's not the reason. The curious thing is that when I connect the HDD to my TV I can view & play...

Plug it in, then on your desktop right click the My Computer icon, then click on Manage. From the window that opens click on Disk Management. In the right hand pane, you may then see your drive displayed. Right click in the lower right pane on your device and click on Explore. If it open the drive to show the files, you should be able to come out of all the windows and then access the drive normally.

My computer does not recognize my external hard drive when I connect the usb

HI rvcruz. I've solved a few problems like this. Connect your hard drive. do you hear the "tutin" sound when you connect USB devices? If you don't, that means you have a problem with your hard drive. Either the case is bad so you just remove the hard drive from the casing and put in on another one (it could be any extrenal case for hard drives.. as long it has the same interface - SATA or IDE). If you do hear the "tutin"sound, go to Start - right click on MY computer and click on "Manage". Then go to "Disk Administration" above "services and applications" and verify if you see your hard drive. Probably you have to initialize the disk or Assign a letter by right clicking on it. But first try removing the hard drive and connect it to another computer WITHOUT the case to make sure it's not the hard drive. I hope this helps and don't forget to rate and give positive feedback for our free support today. Thank you :D

MAxtor Basics 160 GB external hard drive does not connect

Check the USB ports make sure there giveing the right power also do not use a USB hub on this drive. Do not plug it into printers with usb or anything else but the computer make sure you are also checking how many devices you have on the usb ports. If all else fails and it dont work you say its new I would take it back to the store where I bought it, If you find this information useful please use the Fixya s a rateing thank you.

N-91 Problems

Menu>Tools>Hard drive>Options>Tools>Format hard drive
Formatting the hard drive will clear any data stored on it. This should be a last resort and we'd suggest trying to scan the hard drive first. This will attempt to fix any hard drive disk errors. If your N91 does not have the scan option (some don’t) then connect to your PC in mass storage mode, right click on the F: drive, then hit scan.

Exturnal hard drive fell

The fall was probably too much for it. If it was powered up at the time of the fall and the fall caused a substantial shock, it is most likely gone. A running hard drive cannot take much shock.

Before giving up on it, if it was mine, I would remove the hard drive from the portable case and plug it directly into a computer either through a USB adapter, directly to a motherboard or any other available method you may have.

The purpose of that is to bypass the case's electronics and deal directly with the actual hard drive.

If it wont read from it by doing that, you are done.
You could try a warranty claim if it's new enough.
If your data is extremely important, you can send it to a data recovery service but the costs are high. $500 or $1,000 for data recovery isnt that unusual.

Re-post here, let me know how it goes.
